Standby On AA

Wed Dec 31, 2008 5:19 am

Hi... I have a ticket for tomorrow morning, but it looks like I will not be able to make it to the airport (still at work).

I know I can call and say that I will be flying stand by on a later flight, but... Can I do that to fly on the 1st without paying a fee?

Well, thats another question... I'm almost 100% sure (because I knew this could happen) that I selected an Economy Saver fare (not Economy Super Saver) and as per their website those are refundable... Long story short, I received my eticket and it says that it is a NON REFUNDABLE fare! Is AA trying to rip me off? Has anyone else had this problem before?

Thanks!

BTW, I know there are similar topics on this forum, but none of them (at least the ones I could find) were exactly the same.

There are people who are probably a bit more qualified to answer this, but I'll tell you my impressions of what your options are. Basically, no, if you decide to fly standby for an earlier flight, or do a confirmed seat standby, (which I think is $50 now but it may still be $25), for a later flight, you must travel on the same day. I'm pretty sure if you have to change your flight to the 1st, you'll be hit with a $150 change fee, the difference in fare, and possibly an expedite fee, but I'm not sure about the last one (unless you really did book it in Economy Saver). I really hope I'm wrong, though, and hope you can do standby for the 1st. Someone else will be able to affirm or correct what I said.

Hmm, Economy Saver fares are indeed refundable (and the change fee isn't applicable, as well), so if you are sure that you booked it with that price level, I'd give them a call. Perhaps its an error on their end, but I'm pretty sure they're not "trying to rip you off."  Wink In any event, I would absolutely call AA's Reservations Desk and see what they can do for you. They're usually really good about such things, at least in my experience. 1-800-433-7300 for regular, 1-800-882-8880 if you're an AAdvantage member.

Good luck! And keep us apprised of what happened.
