Questions About Egyptair

Sun Jan 11, 2009 3:09 am

Hello to everybody, I am thinking to fly from FRA to Bangkok in april or may and I found really good prices with Egyptair. They fly from FRA to Cairo and than from Cairo to Bangkok.
The plane they use are 737-800 and 777 200/300.
My questions, how old are the 738 and 772 and 773?
And how safe is the airline? This I know is a bad question, but I mean Pilot training, MX etc how are they?
Thanks for any comment and info.

There has been only 7 fatal incidents in the last 39 years - 443 people dead. Most recent was about 7 years ago.

Most of these were between 1971 and 1986. So... I think relatively safe. Suicidal pilots are also very few and far between; I would not worry about them as a normal safety threat.

I don't think MX has been cited as a cause of a fatal crash in a very long time (many years). Pilot training is normally very good, though there may be the very rare suicidal pilot.

I would not hesitate to ride on Egyptair even today because the odds are extremely good of safely arriving at the destination.

The 738 and 772/773 are fine aircraft with a solid and very proven track record. Not very old at all. 737-800 was launched in 1994, and 777-200 was launched in 1995. Not sure when Egyptair got theirs (for these models) but no earlier than 1994-1995.

As of right now Egyptair doesn't have any 773's. They have 8 orders for 77W's (6 from GECAS and 2 from Boeing).

The five 772's are between 8-10 years old and the 738's are around 1.5 to 2 years.

Hope this helps!

The business class is not real business class. My parents flew MS from JFK to CAI on a 777 and said it was the worst seat they've ever been in. Comparable to a U.S. domestic first class seat. Also, MS doesn't serve alcohol. They do offer attractive prices, but you get what you pay for.

checkmark  MS is far from a global top notch carrier. If you are looking for cheaper business class fares airlines like the Gulf carriers, Turkish and even Royal Jordanian will get you there in better products and often quite good values.

Matter of fact Egyptair and CAI airport have been the center of so much travel angst, that one of the large companies I do business with has Egyptair listed as a non-allowed carrier for its employee travel - to the happiness of many!

Just what I have heard too, and read on Skytrax and such.
I also noticed those Egyptair prices from FRA, seldom seen so low biz class prices from Europe to Asia.
If you have a chance to start your trip to BKK from LHR/LGW in May, Qatar Airways Business class is available for around EUR 1700.

It seems this spring/summer more low prices will be seen from Europe to Asia, right now KLM is selling HEL-BKK in Y from EUR 399! ...but, the KLM B747 not a tempting idea.
