Help With Kuwait Flights

Tue Jan 13, 2009 6:00 pm

I need your help. Somebody I know is needing to commute to between Kuwait and New York a few times in the year. I have looked online, and can't find much on this so I was wondering if anybody knows if Kuwait Airways has a frequent flier program, and if so, who can he use those miles on other than with Kuwait Airways. Also, can you get Delta or a European carrier's miles or something like that for flying with Kuwait? Finally, If he was not to fly with Kuwait, what would be the best airline to fly in terms of frequent flier miles and ease of travel between Kuwait and NYC. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would not look to KU for any frequent flyer benefits. It has a stand-alone program with no airline partners.

Instead how about United? -- short hop from JFK/LGA/EWR/HPN to IAD then the daily nonstop to KWI? With frequent trips your friend should certainly qualify for elite membership in Mileage Plus fast.

Otherwise I would look at the European carriers, or others such as Emirates, Turkish via their hubs.

I would recommend that your friend go with an airline in an alliance that offers multiple choices of one-stop itineraries.

Star Alliance, for example, offers NYC-IAD-KWI, NYC-FRA-KWI, and NYC-IST-KWI, just to name a few. SkyTeam would route you through Paris or Amsterdam, and OneWorld via London or possibly Madrid. With each alliance, you get multiple options as well as different schedules.

Unless he absolutely MUST fly a non-stop, I'd pass. More options = more possibilities if something goes wrong.

KU has their own FF program and no alliance with any other airlines as LAXintl mentioned.

UA flies daily non-stop from IAD to KWI, DL flies 4 weekly flights non-stop from ATL. I guess the other option would be as mentioned in the above two replies is the European carriers BA, KL, LH also EK, EY, QR, TK all out of NYC.

I wouldn't choose to fly on KU because it is way below average. I would rate KU 3.5 on a scale from 0 - 10.
- Always late.
- IFE out of order all the time.
- A lot of technical incidents lately (big maintenance issue at KU).

So it is highly not recommended to fly on KU unfortunately.

I thought one could earn UA miles on EK? My first choice would be through DXB/AUH/DOH on EK/EY/QR respectively.

If you were to stick within the Star Alliance, go TK over UA...both are one stop anyway, but TK will have the far superior in flight experience, especially with the introduction of the B77W to the JFK route and their recently upgraded soft product.

I love UA, but I wouldn't fly their old cradle seat B777s with a limited loop (tiny) PTV from the Middle East to America, not when their equivalent competition have 10in+ on demand PTV systems with thousands of channels to choose over, not to mention 176-180 degree reclining beds.

And the obvious one - with EK you'd be able to hop on an A380.
