Encountering Daytrip Problems

Sun Jan 18, 2009 11:06 pm

Next Saturday (24th), I will be taking a daytrip that I found so rediculously cheap, I couldn't help but click purchase.

Delta 1916: DFW-ATL 0800-1102 752
Delta 1626: ATL-STL 1347-1430 M88
United 8052: STL-ORD 1553-1720 ER4
United 561: ORD-DFW 2020-2253 735

The layovers are 2h 45m in ATL, 1h 27m in STL, and 3h 00m in ORD. I tried to plan each flight with enough time in between the next in case of minor delays. I was just wondering if my ATL-STL flight arrived too close, or after the departure of the ORD flight; would UA understand our situation and reaccomodate us, or would we be liable for rebooking? We booked one-way tickets on Delta for DFW-STL, and United for STL-DFW. Also, we won't have any checked luggage. My dad wanted me to book a refundable room in ORD at the Hilton in case we had problems in ORD due to weather.

My big question is: If we didn't make it to STL in time for the UA flight to ORD, would UA reaccomodate us? Also, would be have to pay the extra fees for the change?

Thanks everyone.

I'm sorry, why are you putting yourself through all this? Mileage?

Quoting PGNCS (Reply 1):

Some people like flying for flying and/or are mileage junkies.

Quoting Super80DFW (Thread starter):

United is not obligated to rebook you for free, since they are only responsible for the one way from STL - DFW. That being said, they maybe understanding and rebook you on a later flight. I have done trips like this multiple times and have never had an issue. I usually just pray there are no storms in the midwest on my daytrips. Good luck!

Well, I looked at the extended forecast for my cities, and they are as follows: Atlanta will be rainy, St. Louis will be partly cloudy, and Chicago will be sunny. I'm thinking unless we have a maintenance issue, the weather should cooperate.

Ideally, what is a safe time to connect in STL from DL to UA without checked luggage? 10 minutes?
