Need Advise W/ LHR Transfer And Spotting

Sun Jan 25, 2009 6:04 pm

Hello,

I will be flying to Dubai in a few days. Will be taking CO out of EWR and connecting via LHR to EK. I am especially excited for 2 reasons:
1- its my 1st time flying my favorite legacy (CO) internationally, and 2- this will be my fist visit to LHR since 1978! I have been to LGW, but not to LHR since!

I believe CO is @ terminal 4, and EK @ terminal 3. With about 2 hrs to spare in between, should I just head straight to terminal 3 or is there time to walk around, explore and spot in 4 then move on to 3 and do the same? My return trip is the same but in reverse order of course.
How convenient is the transfer? Long lines and wait or smooth op?

Thank You in advance for your feedback,

Regards;

I'd strongly advise heading straight for Terminal 3 once you clear immigration.

You never know. Terminal 3 can be a complete mess at times but at others it can be rather calm. Terminal 4 is not located in the T1, T2, T3 loop so you'll have to hop a bus or catch the underground which again could take a little while.

Correct.
As AlitaliaMD11 said, I'd head straight for T3, however, catch the 'Heathrow Connect' train service, it's much easier than the buses or the tube.

immigration @ transfer between terminals? Alrighty then, if that's the case. Even more reason to head to T3 ASAP!

Since Continental and Emirates code-share I believe you will be checked in all the way to DXB when checking in at EWR which means you shouldn't have to collect your luggage.

However if you need to collect your luggage and recheck in at Terminal 3 with Emirates two hours is certainly not enough time.

Hi There

BAs connections guides say that you should allow 90 mins to connect between T4 and T3 with part of the journey being in a transfer bus.

I have connected through LHR various times and based on my experience (but not so arrogant to think that it was always be like this) these times (i,e 90 mins in your case) are real worst case scenario.

I transferred between T4 and T1 in about 20 mins give or take.

Heed the advice here though, dont mess around, go through your connection ASAP to avoid problems.

One thing you can do at LHR is that if you go through connections and arrive in the departures area and dont have your connecting flight leaving for 3 hours or more is speak to a member of BAA staff (LHR staff not BA!) and they escort you landside.

Good to keep in mind if your ongoing is delayed maybe?

Hope this info helps...
