When's The Best Time To Buy Tix For Summer?

Sun Feb 01, 2009 6:18 pm

Need to cross the pond to Europe during the summer (mid-june to mid-july) for school and from my research so far, all tix ae like $1K plus. wowzie! Is it still too early to buy or is that pretty much the standard fare for a summer in the city of lights?

I have been doing this for over 20 years. Sometimes I buy 9 months in advance, sometimes one week in advance. In short, you never know, the difference could be +/- $100 either way, meaning you buy tix 9 months in advance and the price can actually go down.
I would say 6 weeks in advance is a good time. Also if you want to get better seats, book earlier. (again no guarantees that the seats will be there the day of the flight)
Good luck.

i always say a season in advance, as it seems sales go out for purchase about on that time frame!

Continental's got BusinessFirst seats on sale now, some very good deals, but not as cheap as coach, sadly!!
Where are you trying to go?
Have you tried Kayak.com? They're useful.

I buy my tickets for my annual summer trip to MCI around now. Definately after the holiday season and a little after that, so more like mid-January - March or so I buy 'em. This year I got hoodwinked and bought them around New Years Eve. The next week, the price dropped like a rock.
I convert Jet A and 100LL into noise.

I'm trying to go WAS-CDG. Don't really care which airport in WAS. I did use Kayak, but it's giving me a fare of $1K+ and it's on US. Yuck! Would never fly that again. I'm trying to go end of June to mid-July. I know it's tourism on steroid during that season, so I'm not sure whether to book now or wait a little while longer. I got a fare of $845 on Aer Lingus, now it's $955  Sad I figure that with the bad economy, etc.... less people would travel, but I guess not.
