Planning Intl Day Trip: Any Probs Coming Back?

Fri Feb 20, 2009 1:53 pm

Hey all.

Apparently, I have gone insane (says my mother)...

I was recently just realizing how long it had been since I was last on a plane so I decided for the hell of it to check out possibly flights. Mexicana has some pretty cheap flights leaving and returning on Wednesday LAX-MEX-LAX so why not fly down and visit the homeland for a couple of hours? :P

Only question is...Would I have any problems Leaving and/or entering Mexico or The US? I've done this route MANY times but never in one day.

Is there something I should look out for?

Thanks in advance!

You shouldn't have any trouble in the US (save maybe a trip to secondary when you get back, but that's not a huge deal, especially if you don't have bags). Not sure about Mexico-- mileage runs can be very problematic in Canada, but Mexico doesn't take as close a look at many things as Canada does.

Just be truthful, you like flying, you wanted miles, you found a cheap fare and wanted to fly down for the day.

What is the nature of the problems in Canada? It's not as if you are cheating the airline....

Nothing to do with the airlines... it's fussy immigration officers.

Very good to hear. When I was your age, I used to do exactly the same thing, for the same reason ... just to smell burnt jet fuel. I never had any problems with Customs, but then it was a simpler time then.

One of my most bizarre trips was when BA was about to retire the VC-10, so I flew:

YYZ-YMX-PIK-MAN on a BA VC-10
MAN-LHR on a BA BAC-111-500
LHR-JFK on a BA B747-100
JFK-YMX on a OK IL-62
then home on an AC DC-9 YUL-YYZ

... all without laying over ... oh to be a kid again!
Just because I stopped arguing, doesn't mean I think you are right. It just means I gave up!

I did a daytrip FRA-JFK-FRA on SQ in 2002 - no problems there either... have fun!
Smile - it confuses people!
