38-Minute Connection Time At CLE: Doable?

Sun Feb 22, 2009 12:13 am

Well, I just booked a FWA-MCO roundtrip a few days ago, between 3/7 and 3/12, as part of a vacation package. For some reason, Expedia booked us UA one way between FWA-ORD-MCO and CO the other way from MCO-CLE-FWA. Still, in this travel environment, it was at least $200 cheaper than flying on a one-airline itinerary on AA and $400 less than DL/NW, my normal airline of choice. (G4 to SFB wasn't an option due to my mother wanting to take advantage of the Disney Magical Express bus service. She did not want to rent a Chevrolet Aveo Penalty Box or pay for an expensive town car ride.)

However, while the UA flight via ORD has a 2+ hr connecting time, the CO flight has a connecting time at CLE of 38 minutes! The CO flight itinerary is:

CO 1847 (B738)
Departs MCO at 1745 EDT
Arrives CLE at 2003 EDT

CO/C5 8746 (Q200)
Departs CLE at 2040 EDT
Arrives FWA at 2147 EDT

I know that I won't have time to buy food (fortunately, CO still feeds you) or possibly even use the toilet, but will I at least have time to connect from Concourse C (mainline) to Concourse D (where the props serving FWA and the like are) and make my next flight? Should I even try to scurry off the plane? I know... CLE is no ORD or DTW; but I haven't been through CLE since I was a baby for my first flight, when CO was just starting to build up their hub. Hence one needs to know if they need to rush.

It's very doable. CLE's a small airport and CO's operation is heavily banked, so short connections are pretty normal.

Shouldn't be much of a problem at CLE I've made a 35 minute connection at CLE before, and my checked bag even made the flight. That will NOT happen at EWR. It is pretty simple, You'll arrive at "C" walk the tunnel and depart at "D" that walk takes all of 5-10 minutes.

I may pass you on the 12th. I have an 8 40p to MCI on COEX, probably in the D.
Arr apx 6 20pm on CO-CN from FNT. I have a little more time.

On your Flt 1847, hopefully you arent in row 24(back of the plane). With a connect as tight as yours, try to get forward as much as possible. This gives you an extra 2-4 minutes in
'track time' between planes....and I dont mean railroad tracks.....
Can you say Nikes?

You can do it.......

I've done 14 and 26 minute connections in CLE before. You should be just fine with 38 minutes, even with a 10-15 minute delay.
