What Is The Flight With Most Stopovers

Thu Feb 26, 2009 1:27 pm

Hi guys, I was wandering about the flight with the most stopovers (nowadays and historical), which means neither a change of aircraft nor flight number.
Thanks!

I would think it is the Continental Micronesia flight from HNL to GUM on a 738. It makes stops in Majuro, Kwajalein, Kosrae, Pohnpei, and Truk before finally reaching Guam!

Widerøe operates TOS-KKN with zero to six intermediated stops, the most extreme being TOS-HAA-HFT-ALF-BVG-BJF-VDS-KKN.

Under "historical"... in 1962 AA had an LGA-LAX DC-6 (or DC-6B) that made 12 stops en route, which will be hard to beat within one country. But the Imperial Airways and BOAC flying boats to Australia probably made a couple more than that.

One of BOAC's Comet 4 flights LHR-MEL in 1960 made 10 stops.
LHR-DUS-BEY-BAH-BOM-CMB-KUL-SIN-JKT-DRW-SYD-MEL. Elapsed time LHR-MEL 41 hrs.

A QF 707 LHR-SYD in 1960 made 9 stops:
LHR-FRA-CIA-CAI-KHI-CCU-BKK-SIN--DRW-BNE-SYD. Elapsed time LHR-SYD 36 hrs.

In March 1963, NW had an L-188 Electra that operated BIL-MIA with 10 stops:
BIL-BIS-JMS-FAR-MSP-RST-MKE-ORD-ATL-TPA-FLL-MIA. Elapsed time BIL-MIA 13.5 hrs. Block time on the final FLL-MIA sector was 15 minutes.

Quoting SpeedyGonzales (Reply 2):

I have flown on the return last year routing KKN-VDS-BJF-BVG-MHN-HFT-TOS in a Dash 8-100 (reg. LN-WIR) with sectors as short as 24 mi (2x) and 29 mi.

(The flight was preceeded by a OSL-KKN flight and followed by TOS-LYR afterwards, both on the same day.)
