How Empty Was Your Last Flight?

Mon Mar 02, 2009 3:03 am

I've been amazed by how empty my last flights have been. 30% to 50% LF out of DEN on many UA flights. Had one flight with just 15 on a 320.

Anyone else finding themselves "alone" more or less...

Both flights today (ORD-CVG and CVG-MSP) were completely full on CRJ-100s.

Yesterday was different; MSP-CVG was booked to 29/50, and CVG-ORD was maybe 60% full (First even went out with empty seats). However, my original MSP-SLC flight was oversold, and I did volunteer to be bumped off that one.

Last weekend, I did MSP-MEM-FLL-CVG-MSP. Again, full flights everywhere.

Weekend before was MSP-IAH-SLC-LAS-MSP. MSP-IAH, SLC-LAS and LAS-MSP were all full; IAH-SLC was maybe 90% full (maybe 3 open seats).

Now; my LHR trip in late January; both ATL-LHR and LHR-MSP were both maybe 50% full...

Yesterday, LYS-LCY on British Airways Cityflyer. My Dad and I were the only passengers in Club Europe. Felt like a private jet once the curtains had been closed.

Euro Traveller looked to be about 50% full.

My last flight was NRT - SFO on Feb 20, which was a friday. The flight had about 30 odd empty seats on economy.

About 9 years ago, when AA still had the overnight nonstop from SJC-BOS, I paid $2000 (rather, my company paid) for a round trip on a flight that had less than 25 people in a 757.

DXB-BKK-DXB -> 100% going, 100% coming back (overbooked both ways, op ups on the way back, then stand-bys accommodated in Y).

DXB-DAM-DXB -> about 60% going, 85% coming back after the turnaround.

Last flight I flew FLL-DCA on NK full to the max.
I have only been on one flight from DCA down to MIA/FLL that was maybe 85% Full. Every time I fly between MIA/FLL and DCA the flight is just about 100%.

How Empty Was Your Last Flight?

My most recent flights (connected through a major hub) commenced just 10 hours ago. Since the question is worded "how empty...?":

25 empty seats on my Saab 340 flight from origin city to hub city, about 50 empty seats on my connecting flight operated by a 757-200 -- which I suspect was effected by pax who missed their connections due to their inbound flights being cancelled or delayed due to weather in the eastern U.S.

My all-time most empty flight took place somewhere around late 1999 or early 2000 when I was one of two total pax on a Saab 340. Both of us boarded at the origin spoke city of the flight; no one boarded at the intermediate stop enroute to the hub city.

My last 2 flights BNE-SYD-BNE(734 and 763) were both 100% full however last year I flew on a 734 MEL-BNE with about 40 other pax.

Other empty flights I have had were 4 pax (including myself) on a Saab 340 BNE-LSY (Lismore, NSW) in 2007 and in 2004 I flew on a A330-300 SYD-BNE where Business was empty and Economy would have had about 50 passengers max.

My last two flights were pretty full. This would be July 2, 2008.

MCI-MKE (717) 100%
MKE-PIT (CRJ) I'd say about 80-90%. There were a few empty seats, including 8B right next to me.

My last flight was 2 days ago between MUC and IST on LH A320 and the plane was about 50% full in both classes. It was quite a relief after an 11 hour uncomfortable ride on the 346 between LAX and MUC. That flight however was about 95 % full in all classes.

Cheers!

100% both ways ATL-LAS/LAS-ATL on a Delta 767-300 back in early December. While I know the seat availability charts on a website aren't always accurate, my next flights to Vegas and back to ATL in about three weeks still have quite a few seats open. I honestly would not be surprised if there were empty seats on those flights.

But the prevois flight from Singapore to Dubai on EK was also pretty empty with only 1F/24J/93Y pax on the 773!

On a recent trip to uk in the last week of feb my LHR - YYZ had about 200-210 open seats in Y. Everyone had a row to themselves. I had quite the fort going with all the surplus pillows and blankets. Who says you need one of those SQ sky suites to sleep. My sleeping set up almost made up for the IFE inop for the whole flight.

Flights taken in Dec and Jan

SYD-BKK QF 100%
SIN-PER QF 100%
PER-SYD QF 100%

In Feb and March

QF SYD-EZE approx 100%
QF EZE-SYD approx 60%
(I hope this picks up as I would hate to see t dropped. They had some really cheap fares on sale and available frequent flyer seats in both business and economy just a few months out from departure).
