Question About Changing Flight With BA

Mon Mar 09, 2009 12:36 pm

Hi all,

I am currently booked on the following flights:

Accra, Ghana to Heathrow (London), United Kingdom
Flight number BA0078
Depart Mon 8 June 2009 22:35
Arrive Tue 9 June 2009 06:35
World Traveller

Heathrow (London), United Kingdom to Toronto, Canada
Flight number BA0093
Depart Tue 16 June 2009 12:00
Arrive Tue 16 June 2009 15:10
World Traveller

There is a chance that I may want to delay my return to Canada by roughly a few weeks or a month, thus changing my return flights. I looked into this on the automated BA system (Manage My Booking) the other day and it told me it would cost around $150-175CAD to extend my return into July, while still accounting for the week I want to spend in London...not too bad. My question: as I get closer to the flight I am booked on (in June), will the price to change the booking to a later date increase? Or, if I try to change it around the beginning of May, will it still cost $150-175CAD?

Any info you can provide is appreciated.
Many Thanks!

It depends on the fare you are booked in. If the same fare basis, for example Q or N is available, it will just be the change fee etc that are charged.
If there fare is not available, which it sounds like it might not be, you have to pay a difference in fare as well as the change fee.

So in answer to your question, it really will depend on if the fare is available when you want to change. 9 times out of 10, the closer you get to the date you want to change to, the lower fares will not be available.

July is the peak of high season for UK-Canada flights, so if you are booked in a lower class of service there is a good chance you will have to pay fare difference in addition to the change fees. Those lowest classes of service can be sold out for weeks at a time in July and early August.

No disrespect to you in particular but without a confirmed booking out of the UK you are risking being declined entry into the UK by immigration full-stop.

Racism or not the UK Immigration do target Ghanaian and Nigerian visitors that arrive and over stay.

Sorry.

He does have a confirmed booking, he just might want to change it, and as long as any visa he may have/need allows him into the uk for the period he wants to stay, immigration wont even bat an eye lid.

No disrespect taken. Indeed, I do have a confirmed booking to Toronto, but it is delayed by a week because I wanted to spend some time in London. And, even though I am coming from Ghana, my Canadian passport should allow me easy access to the UK, no?
