Reroute Due To Schedule Change What Can I Do?

Mon Mar 09, 2009 5:33 pm

Hi

I was confirmed and ticketed to travel CHC-xSYD-SIN on Qantas. Qantas have schedule changed their CHC-SYD flight and have offered CHC-xAKL-xSYD-SIN or a full refund. I don't mind the extra flight but the connections are not great and it adds nearly seven hours to the total journey time. I asked if I could be rebooked CHC-xBNE-SIN which is a bit quicker and only two sectors and they have said no as the rules on the fare do not permit this.

OK the fare rules may not permit this but as its a schedule change 12 days before departure should QF not bend the rules a little bit? Its not like I am asking a lot?

Any views?

I have no experience with QF, but this isn't normal behavior. Most carriers will do basically whatever you want when they change the schedule on you as long as your origin, destination, and day of travel don't change.

checkmark  I even got UA to change the date for me, at no charge!
If I were you, OP, I'd give QF reservations a call again, and hope for a better agent. Just give them the rundown - that 2 stops and an extra 7 hours is unacceptable, and that you booked the flights you booked for a reason. They should comply with your wishes.

QF should offer to put you on the CHC-BNE-SIN, if I was you I would call them again..

I dont travel a vast amount with QF however I do with EK and when BKK was closed due to protest late last year I was due to fly SYD-BKK-HKG.

EK offered to put me on a direct SYD-HKG flight with CX, however when I asked if I would get my miles for it they said no.

I asked if they could route me SYD-DXB-HKG to stay with EK, the lady was a little shocked that I asked to fly almost 14hrs our of my way but said if thats what I wanted to do then it was fine with them...

and I got all my miles...!!

So get back on the phone to Qantas and ask again..

I see that only Jetstar fly between Christchurch and Brisbane and that may be the issue. I can't see Qantas codeshares on that flight, but if they don't you may be stuck. This could be the problem.

If it adds 7 hours to the journey at airports, I'd be inclined to ask Qantas to give you a few lounge passes to help pass the time or book you on a better connecting Air NZ flight up to Auckland. (I think you are flying on 22 March as that is the only day that the connections do not work to Singapore over Sydney?)

Good luck.

Good luck.

The flights are for Sunday 5th April. The connection via BNE shows as QF210 and QF51.

That would not be permitted in a lot of countries. In the EU, I don't think they can do that at all. If they change your flight schedule, then they have to put you on the closest to original itinerary available in the same class of service. It has nothing to do with fare rules. I don't know if it works that way for QF, but I would probably call again and ask for a supervisor to explain the rules with you.

Apparently not!

Just had my KLM Lima-Amsterdam flight cancelled for 26/May. I was on the cheapest ticket available and as that booking class was sold out the days before KLM refused to rebook me on another flight (even though there was plenty of space in economy and I was happy with any flight leaving up to 48hrs before as long as I would reach my destination no later than originally planned). They 'kindly' offered a full refund, so I could book another (more expensive) ticket. Not sure what they say about tickets with small letters, but in my eyes this is absolutely unacceptable.

Unfortunately KLM is often my only or cheapest option, but I surely will look for alternatives when possible. But who cares all loss of business will probably be blamed on the Dutch ecotax anyway.

QF210 is a jetstar operated flight.

Looking at the online timetables, the problem is that the Sydney-Singapore flight has been cancelled on Sundays. I do not know what type of ticket you are on, but unless the ticket is issued from the Qantas ticket stock, it is normally not possible to use jetstar services as they are a budget airline without full interline ticketing. They only have a limited codeshare with Qantas, and many of their fares cannot be used despite having a Qantas flight number.
