Routing Qantas SYD-LAX...A380 Or B747?

Sat Mar 14, 2009 10:51 am

Hey guys!

I need your help:

I am planning to make the following trip: LHR-SIN-SYD-LAX-LHR

Now Qantas gives me a choice to fly from Sydney to Los Angeles via Auckland on LAN Chile A343 and, of course, Qantas B747.
Alternatively, I could choose Sydney to Los Angeles via Melbourne (both on Qantas metal) on a B767 and A380.

What would you do? I would like to experience a LAN Chile flight, that would be nice but on the other hand I would really like to fly on the A380 (albeit a second time, as I am planning to fly on a QF A380 from SIN to SYD)

Should I take the A380 flight or the LAN Chile and B747 flight?

Thank you for your help,

Best,

Lukas

If it were me i'd take the LA/QF SYD-AKL-LAX seeing as your going to be flying on a A380 anyway you may as well go for a new airline too. If you weren't flying the A380 SIN-SYD it would be a different story though.

Definitely concur about taking the LAN Chile flight, especially since you've already got an A380 leg within the planned itinerary.

It's always good to mix it up. For a domestic trip I'm planning for later this year, I'm purposely considering taking a two stop itinerary on my outbound leg even though I could fly non-stop from where I live. This is mainly to add two new airlines, two or three new airports, and possibly one or two a/c type to my list.

I believe it's easier to be transferring in somewhere in AKL than doing a domestic to international transfer in Australia. Never tried LA before.. Your choice whether you think you'll want to take another flight on the A380 or not!
It's all about the destination AND the journey.

I would take this option aswell and if you have time do a stopover in AKL great city+I prefer the 744 over the 380 but thats my choice

Thank you so much for your opinions!

I decided to book SYD-AKL-LAX (unfortunately without stop-over in Auckland)

Strangely, I got seat assignments for the SYD-AKL-LAX route, but no pre-assigned seats for LHR-SIN-SYD!

On the SYD-AKL route I got 26A on the LAN Chile A343 (isn't that an exit row?)
And how is 52A on QF25 AKL-LAX April-22?

Best,

Lukas

(P.S.: is there a way to assign seats without FF status and without calling QF in Australia?)

Why not call them in VIE?
