On some days this summer NZ will use the 777 on the route and the 744 on other days.
is operating a 744 12x weekly and 2x weekly with a 772 using the flight number NZ5/6 (Southern Winter schedule). NZ1/2 is the flight which continues to London and departs AKL
earlier; also arrives in AKL
earlier. So the 744 will operate NZ5/6 5x weekly.

I didn't think that QF operated the A380 from AKL-LAX, I thought it was non-stop from SYD or MEL to LAX. On the MEL-AKL-LAX route I thought it was either a 744 or an 332, but I could be mistaken.
operate a 2-class 744 on the AKL
flight. Soon the AKL
sector with the 744 will be cut out to allow for connections in LAX
. The A332 was just a fill in while QF
were waiting for their A380s.
Other options - Island hopping - LAX
If you were looking for a direct flight, I'd be choosing Air NZ
. The 744 has 2 more inches of legroom in Economy at 34" and if you were thinking about Y+, the 744 also has the better cabin and an option for the upper deck.
It's all about the destination AND the journey.
