Which Plane Would Be The 1st In Your Fleet?

Tue Mar 24, 2009 12:48 am

If I had enough money to buy a 5 jet fleet of airliners, the 1st jet would be a 777-200LR. What would be your top 5 jets to have?

Mine would also be a 777-200LR - best looking plane in the skies today.

Second would be the second-best looking plane in the skies today - the A340-500.

With those two, I don't think I'd need anything else.  Smile

757-200.

Even though I hate flying in coach on that aircraft, but it's soooo efficient and versatile!

I would go for 5 different types, and then use them on the routes for which they would be the most efficient  Smile In order:

1) 777-200LR
2) 767-300ER
3) 757-200
4) 737-800
5) A320

If it's my fleet I'm assuming that it's my private aircraft and not for commercial purposes. Well, OK. I'll play it both ways:

Private: 777-200ER / B767-300 / B757-200 / A340-600 / A319

If I owned an airline:
1 777-200ER / 2 767-300 / 1 A340-600 / 1 A319 (I'm assuming a long haul airline, pretty much all business class) Of course we know that business model doesn't work!

Good lord, you've got your choice of ANY airliners, and people are choosing everyday Boeings and Airbuses? That's like having your choice of cars and choosing a couple of Toyota Camry rental cars!

Here are my picks:

Interesting that no one chose the A380. I guess you're all thinking small, like a real-life start-up airline  Wink

So, I guess I'll be the first - A380, 772LR, 773ER, 744, 787
Yeah, my airline's going to be long-haul, none of this regional stuff for me - as long as I'm dreaming, I'll dream big

I was operating under the assumption these were planes available for delivery today and certified for operation at this time.

If this is any airliner ever, I would choose:

Concorde
Comet 4
Constellation
777-200LR
A340-500

I'd buy 5 727-200s, have them re-engined with JT8D-217s (MD-80 engines) have two man glass cockpits installed and add Valsans winglets, i'd deck them out with four abreast leather seats at 40 inch pitch in a single class configuration, i'd also institute a four hour guarantee, if we can't get you from LA-NY in four hours, your return ticket is free, because we know that the 727 is a freaking rocket, so let's forget about conserving fuel, let's "kick the tires and light the fire."
Yes, I'd like to see airbus go under so Boeing can have their customers!

Currently available (either new or reasonably refurbed):

1) 773ER (mmmmm massives).... not sure I would fly it anywhere or if I would just listen to them do engine runs all day while I sipped a beverage under an umbrella a few (hundred) feet away.
2) 763ER this would likely be my regular ride. Good legs and a decent kick too
3) 752 - everyone needs a crotch rocket now and then
4) 332 - best plane in the Airbus line up by far in my books. Looks good. Rides good.
5) 744 - equipped for the party anywhere, with the 'private' lounge upstairs and a bad a** bar and dance floor on the main deck  Wink

All time classics (assuming type certs would be available and ariframes) which after typing is also pretty much the all time 'loud' list.

1) Concorde (duh^2)
2) TU-144 (Concorde would be christened 'west', and the TU-144 'east'. The hangar they live in would be dubbed 'cold war' and the would be parked nose to nose)
3) 707 - You just *have* to, I'm sorry. Preferably the dash-80 prototype.
4) 727 - No hushkits, no nothing. Jets are supposed to be loud!!!
5) VC-10 (see the comment for the 727, I did say I like it loud right)
I don't care what you think of my opinion. It's my opinion, so have a nice day :)

4. 777-200LR for ultra long haul

My five would be:
1) DC-9-10 (Just a sweet looking RJ, and not a bad performer, from what I understand)
2) Lockheed L1049G Super Constellation (In authentic TWA colors)
3) Vickers Vanguard (Just because it looks sweet and is fast)
4) Boeing 727 Super 27 (The model where they replaced the side engines with JT8's, giving the 727 almost 40 knots more of cruise speed)
5) Boeing 717 (For everyday flying)

I can fly them on short hops from New York to Florida, I can also fly them to Europe from New York or Hawaii from San Francisco.

For my entertainment purposes only:

B1900D
ERJ-135
757-200
787-8ER (inevitable evolution with 787-9 wings & engines)
777-200LR

If I were actually starting a full-service airline:

Q400
C130
737-900ER
787-9 (with interim leases on A330-300s until delivery)
777-300ER (lighter-weight evolution, when it happens)

hmm well if i had the money to but an all jet fleet of 5 aircraft, and assuming its enough $$ to buy 5 brand spanking new 777-200LR aircraft, than i would say forget 5 planes, and would buy up a ton of 737-300/500 and i can get a few of those for the price of one 777, than I would Go ala allegiant, with service to New York, MSY, SAN, MYR, RNO, ACY and perhaps DCA/IAD

If I could start a PSA/AirCal type airline I would get a fleet of about 20-25 717's, oh wait I think I may try to pick up the old YX 717's here in VCV  Wink If it were financially feasible I would like to start the airline based it out of ONT and fly intra California along with a little bit of Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona.

Another one I'd like to start would be with EMB-120's out of VCV on runs down to LAX, SAN and SNA to connect the high desert to down the hill along with LAS and IFP runs to the casinos. I would also use the Brasilia's on charters to different destinations like LAS and IFP for those with airports like SMO, LGB, RAL, etc. that would like to fly there without going through ONT, SNA, or LAX. These Brasilia's would be in a more executive type set up basically charter ops. However I would get contracts with some of the casino's to bring in the mid to high end gamblers that can't or don't have their own aircraft.

For my own private use:

1 A380 (could use a lap pool on the main deck!)
1 777-200LR Now I can be sure I can get from anywhere to everywhere (weight wouldn't be a problem in a private yet).
1 A318 So I could get to just about any airport, but still have some range.
1 Concorde - for urgent travel needs.
1 F22 Raptor - For fun!

For me:

737-800
757-300
Special passenger fitted C-17(X), with windows etc
777-200LR
747-8i

Starting an airline:

BAe 146-300
73H
77W
77L
748i
It's all about the destination AND the journey.

Now that some people are starting to list planes they would have for their own use, here's my list:

For me:

Boeing 777-200LR
Boeing 777-300ER
Boeing 747-8I
Boeing 787-9
Boeing 737-600 (in case I have to go somewhere with a smallish airport)

For my airline:

Now, I'm going to think realistically here. If I only had enough money to buy a 5 jet airline, first of all it's not going to be a big airline, and I would've just started finding my feet in the industry. It's probably unrealistic to have five brand new planes. So,

ex-SQ Boeing 777-212ER, for domestic routes in Australia, and possibly used on some international routes too (flights to Asia mainly)
ex-SQ Boeing 747-412, for high density domestic routes as well as long haul routes (flights to Europe and North America)
ex-CX Boeing 777-267, for medium haul duties (domestic routes, flights to NZ)
ex-QF Boeing 767-338ER, for domestic duties and medium haul international flights.
New build Boeing 737-700, obviously for short to medium haul domestic routes and some flights across the Tasman.

I'd probably place orders for about five 747-8Is to replace the 744s, 787-8 to replace both the non-ER 772s and the 763ER, and in the longer run, 77W and 77L to complement the 748I. I'd probably get the 77L last once I can establish a PER-LHR non-stop route, or a PER-YVR route.
