BA Club Or First To Singapore?

Tue Mar 31, 2009 4:56 pm

I have been invited to a wedding and the family are paying for the flight. They have said they will pay for First class because of the distance from London but I was wondering is it really worth the extra for them. Both services have a flat bed, is the meal service that much better, will I really appreciate the "extra" space, I don't want to appear greedy to grab First Class and they are such nice people. Anyone has experience of both classes on this trip?

Yes. The difference is not worth it unless you like to experience First. If the purpose is to sleep and arrive well rested, Club World will do very nicely.

Well you get more miles if you fly FIRST.

Its not just on board, consider the lounges, luggage etc. They both might be flat bed, but First is a lot more private.

It really depends on what you are used to, and what you want.

Also, the status credits will push you higher up in the food chain (again if that is important to you).

Having just flown club world last week, I say it is perfectly adequate. First class is a bit excessive. You have all the features you need in Club World... good bed, full meals, lounges, priority security, priority check in, etc. You get all those in First at an elevated quality. I honestly think BA First is excessive. Save them some money.

If you're like me, you'll settle for the California sparkling wine rather than paying for the real thing when you feel like a glass of Champagne. It's all better than Budweiser.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

Be kind to those people inviting you and go for the less expensive option and fly Business Class. You still will be able to arrive in good shape AND show respect to the couple by limiting yourself to a less expensive ticket.

However, there might be a cultural side to all this ...
If the couple is of Chinese origin, make sure that it will not be seen as an offense if you do not accept the given offer (= First Class). Depending on how close you are with that couple, discuss the matter with them openly ...

Oh yes, don't want to appear to snub their offer, they are fairly close friends, so a quick email/chat is due I think.

Go for First, you get more space, can eat when you want and if you can and the offer is there, why not!
