Fewer TR's On A.Net; Are We Feeling The Crisis?

Tue Apr 07, 2009 5:34 pm

Lately the number of TR's has decreased slowly but steadily. Even Fraser (who used to live in seat 2A) has not posted for a while. Could it be we are feeling the crisis?

Do you fly less or work harder (so you do not have time to do a TR)?

Fewer TR's On A.Net; Are We Feeling The Crisis?

Tue Apr 07, 2009 6:14 pm

I fly more. But it is all non-rev so a lot of times I am more concerned about getting a seat than taking pictures of aircraft.
Also, I usually arrive at the gate maximum 40 minutes before departure. I feel there is no legitimate reason to do so any sooner. I know exactly how long it takes to get to the airport from my house, how long it takes to ride the bus from the parking lot to the terminal, and how long it takes to clear security.

Then when I arrive at my destination I make a B-line for the door to my ground transport, unless I have to wait.

And while flying is special, it is very usual to me. Something I have been doing since I was born. Sure, new aircraft are a treat but it is usually the same old thing.

I have flown 17 segments so far this year, 7 of which were CRJ-200.

No siginificant change in my travel habits, but apart form one pending TR (NW AMS to MEM in Business Class), nothing worth to write a TR about.

No real change, however I think you could be right, the TR forum is pretty slow at the moment.

I have got 4 'jolly' flights due up on thu/fri, 2 work ones next week and 2 work ones the week after.

May see's a day trip to CDG & a work flight to EDI & back.

July see's a return to LAS via PHX in BA (J) & US (Y).

Nothing after that as yet as planning 2 weeks in Vietnam after Christmas - though am hoping to get on the AF A380 when dates are announced.

Fewer TR's On A.Net; Are We Feeling The Crisis?

I've been flying about the same this year - well on pace to fly 100,000 miles/100 flights this year and requalify for Platinum.

The only reason I rarely write a report is that my flights have become pretty mundane. Flying has become for me the following:

-Go to airport and relax in WorldClub for a while
-Get on plane. Hope upgrade clears.
-In flight is do work or sleep. If I'm in F I might get a sandwich for a meal.
-Arrive in connection airport. Go to Crown Room. Have beer/check e-mails.
-Get on plane. Repeat first flight.
-Get off plane, go to destination.

Not a whole lot of variation there for me, so it'd get rather boring for me to write on up every week or two.

I am actually flying more during the economic crisis due to the availability of many great deals on flights and accomodations. It's just that it takes a lot of effort to write a TR and I don't always want to run around with my camera taking pictures of everything - airports, lounges, cabins, etc. Also, I feel that many of the flights I usually take are already covered in the TR forum so why bother with yet another TR.

I have a few more interesting trips coming up so maybe I will finally post my first TR.

Fewer TR's On A.Net; Are We Feeling The Crisis?

I used to go away on holiday every time I had time off work. However, for the past six to nine months I haven't flown apart from getting to work.

The Euro is too expensive and although the flights are now very cheap the cost of accommodation abroad is way too high. I feel I have other more important things to spend my money on right now.

I now stay at home on my holidays and do day trips to the sea.  Sad
and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.

- This is a fair point, we normally do a long wekend/a week away in Spain, however decided to drop it this year due to the high euro, we noticed the price difference last summer, I can only imagine how painful a week away would be this year!

However, good for all our european friends to come and visit our country, we might not have great weather and beaches but we have some wonderful historic buildings and scenery.

Since the Euro and the Dollar have become expensive you may be closer to the truth by blaming the low pound...  Smile

Yeah. I have that too. I only do TR's on the long haul special products or interesting occassions.

I just find that it has taken me so long in the past to write up my trip reports that I can't find the time any more.

I flew in to Sligo airport last week, and thought i'd trip report that as it's a somewhat different place to fly to, but i just haven't found the time to do it! Maybe over Easter i'll get a chance.
Next Up: Back to the US - Charlotte & Kansas City

I'm still flying as much, but trudging through lots of work in my final year of an architecture degree means that it has to take priority over writing for this site and for other media. I generally only write trip reports now when it's something very special which I've flown on, or I'm so bored of drawing plans that I decide to take a break!

I have not done anything really spectacular so far this season. I might have one or two coming up but I hide it as a surprise. Big grin

But a VIE-FRA is not really interesting.  Smile

Fewer TR's On A.Net; Are We Feeling The Crisis?

Fri Apr 10, 2009 5:10 am

I feel like I'm seeing the same number of long-haul TRs and trips on premium and "exotic" airlines like EK and SQ, but fewer short-haul, economy class, and domestic TRs. I would guess that this is due to the differing economic situations of someone who saves up for 6 months to fly halfway across the United States on Southwest vs. those who do first class round-the-world trips on A380s for fun one weekend.

Then again, I haven't really counted up the numbers of these TRs so I'm not going to make any actual claims here.

Despite what some have said, I think there's still a demand for the smaller TRs. Small regional airlines and short-haul flights in different parts of the country or world can still be interesting, and even the most "mundane" TR in one country can be fascinating to a person in another.

I would like to read more exotic TR´s instead of the usual LHR-JFK in J-Class etc.

Of course and it can help others to get info about an airline or even fly themselves. Everybody gets from LHR to FRA easily but those small trips which are not common are those I really like. Other than that there are a few members where I can enjoy every TR simply because they are composed perfectly from start till end!  Smile

Maybe we should have a little "screeing" as well?

Ah Don't worry about writing...I did just a video and pic report a few time  Smile
I will be doing Manchester-Juliana (Never Been) so will be a very cool trip...I usually go flying 2 times a year...so it's usually special all the time  Smile

Same amount of flights as last year, and (very probably) still more than all years before that - I just don't have the time to write reports currently... and on those flights where I'd have the time, I tend to simply forget to make pictures or notes.

Aside from that, I guess posting dozens of TRs for FRA-ZRH-FRA (on LX or LH) or FRA-VIE-FRA (on OS or LH) doesn't add too much value anyhow...
Smile - it confuses people!

I just don't have the time nor the inspiration any more.

I'm planning a few interesting ones shortly and did a couple of good ones at the end of last year but the likelihood of me putting pen to paper is slim.
