My mother contacted me this morning about the fact that DL will discontinue the USbank NW WorldPerks VISA card in favor of Skymiles American Express card only.
Though I understand that American Express is a major corporation, it is not as useful as VISA. As a NW card holder, I can use my VISA anywhere in Japan and in many other parts of the world, yet I have not seen many American Express card signs in Japan. The choices are usually VISA, MasterCard, JCB (Japanese) and Diner.
No more WorldPerks from U.S. Bank
"What we're going to ask card members is: 'Why would you want to start over?'" Rabkin said. "You're going to have a great experience on the airline. Now that it's literally the world's largest, you can fly anywhere you want to go and you can take your points bank and combine it."
Fly anywhere you want to go but....can you actually use the card once you get there?
Could this move benefit or hurt Delta in long run and worldwide?
We had a choice of Visa, JCB or Diners club. I can't find many places where I can use an AMEX card in Japan. So what are they going to do for us WorldPerks folks outside of the good old USA?
