How Many Pax Security Checkpoints At Your Airport?

Sun May 03, 2009 6:35 pm

Not lanes, just the checkpoin itself.

Here' some that I know:

SRQ-the commuter terminal is closed so that leaves 1

TPA-4

MCO-2

ATL-2

PIE-2

LGA-7

DCA-do the CO gates have a seperate one? If not, then it would be 4

How many did DCA have around 1993-96?
From south to north, I recall:
1 for the YX/NW/CO area
1 for AA's gates
1 for DL shuttle
1 for US shuttle
1 for gate 20
1 for UA/TW
1 for DL/US

What airport has the most?

Here in PHX I believe we have 7.

- 1 for Terminal 2

- 2 for Terminal 3

- 4 for Terminal 4

Correct me if I am wrong...

DFW has between 5 and 10 open at various times of day.

Never less than 5, during the busy hours 10, sometimes up to 13.

ATL has two check-in/baggage claim areas that merge into one main checkpoint before you get to the people-movers.

There's also a separate much smaller checkpoint at the end of south terminal with access to the T gates, but you can still get to the people-movers through there. I like to go that way since it's usually a lot less crowded.

I've heard there's one at north as well but I've never actually seen it.

The new terminal I believe will have its own outside access and its own security checkpoint.

PIT - 2
One's used as overflow and is located in E, which requires passengers to walk across the old bus lane and walk in to E, go through security, and go down the escalator to meet everyone else to board the tram. The other is the big security checkpoint that's been there since the beginning.

I know MCI has quite a handful, as each gate section has a checkpoint...

Yes, MCI the airport designed in the 70's on the get out of your car and "walk to the gate" concept pre-security era -- each airline has security checks for access to their boarding in the three terminals. WN has two security check points as they have the most flights and most gates in terminal B. I think all the other airlines just have one in their respective terminals and boarding areas (jetways).

MSP has 6 in the main Lindbergh area (one crew only), 1 from the Lindbergh FIS back to the G concourse, 1 on the Skyway walkway and 1 at Humphrey. Total of 9.

Thinking of BOS, here's what they have:
Terminal A - one central checkpoint
Terminal B - 6 total checkpoints - one for AC, one for US, one for US Shuttle, one for AA Eagle, one for AA and one for VX
Terminal C - 4 total checkpoints - one for FL, one for B6, one for UA, one for what was Terminal D.
Terminal E - 2 checkpoints - one on the far right downstairs that led to the former NW gates (soon to be the WN gates) and one central one to the main international departure area.

MHT has three - 2 in the main central area (one on the right, one on the left), and one by the CO/DL/UA gates.

GSO has two - one for the North and one for the South Concourses.

SEA has a fourth - out in the South Satellite for all international arriving passengers.

GTF might be one of the smallest airports with more than one security checkpoint, as the gates are split in to two small groups on either side of the main area before security. Often times, if you arrive early for your flight you get to wait for the TSA personnel to get all the pax through the other checkpoint so they can shut it down and move over to your side!

BZN only has one checkpoint.

CLT: 4
A-Con, B-Con, C-Con, D-Con.

Best part is that you can use any checkpoint to get to any gate in the airport. I do not like airports where certain checkpoints only gain you access to certain parts of the terminal.
