New Biz Class: SQ, QF or VS; which do you prefer?

Fri May 08, 2009 9:42 am

Which do you prefer?

The SQ one: i.e. 1-2-1 configuration - very private feel, especially being all alone at the window - almost first class like! But pitch is less.... but once in bed mode, more comfortable, in my opinion due to the bed width, even though you have to sleep diagonally.

The QF one: 2-2-2 config e.g. A380 - not private, very traditional style, but sense of space in front of you- - very large pitch between seats.

The VS one: herringbone layout - feel a bit like a sardine in that to me the walls next to you make you feel a little claustrophobic, but enables privacy and a solid nights sleep once in bed mode......

What is your favourite and why?

New Biz Class: SQ, QF or VS; which do you prefer?

I have been in the SQ and QF Business class but I am yet yo try the VS Herringbone layout.

I much prefer the QF version. I don't know why but the SQ seat is just too big too sit in comfortably, and having to lie down diagonally al the time didn't help too much. Travelling with somebody else is a lot more difficult on SQ, whereas QF makes it much easier. I also like not having to get up, flip down the bed and then have to get in compared to just pressing a button and falling asleep. I must say however it is quite comfortable just to sit on the SQ bed rather than sit when it is in seat mode!

I have only tried the old 'slippery slope' QF skybed as fitted to the 744 and the NZ/VS style herringbone - in my book the latter is far superior not just for the true lie flat but also for the direct aisle access on every seat , ie I dont climb over anyone and no-one climbs over me.

I also like the ability to recline immediately on boarding rather than having to sit upright during taxi/take off and landing

I would be interested to try the QF A380 as I believe it is a true lie flat unlike the now obsolete first generation skybed in the 744s , but I believe that it still has the disadvantage of having to climb over / be climbed over unless you are in the middle 2 of the 2-2-2 layout . Then again with current load factors this may be less of an issue as a lot of the seats remain unoccupied . Do you have to wait until you are in the air before you can recline in the new ones ?

SQ Business Class seats may be wide, but I don't like the fact that the seat has to be flipped over in order to get into a flat position. I also found it difficult to get comfortable in the diagonal position. IMHO the old Spacebed seats on the 772ER's are much more comfortable than the "new seats".

In my personal opinion, QF's Business Class seats on the 744's are fine. I have never experienced a feeling of "slipping down". I prefer QF's Biz seats (744 and A380) above SQ's seats on the A380's and 77W's.

SA's A340's have the best Biz class seat pitch, that I have ever experienced. Seat pitch = a whopping 73". However, privacy is an issue.

I enjoyed AC's herringbone layout. "If push comes to shove" I would choose the herringbone layout above SQ and QF's Biz class seats.

I have flown both SQ & QF buisness class on both the SQ77W QF 744 & 380. As mentioned above by several others the 77W seat is a tad awkward and I actually found it to wide as a seat, it made me feel somewhat small I am 5'9 and just did not feel right.
The QF 744 are a little bit angled but I did not have a real issue with it "flat" did not sleep but I never do on long flights.
On the QF 380 they are a true lay flat and are very comfortable and i did not have any issues going from window to aisle when the next seat was flat.
Overall I would go QF 744 380 then SQ 777W

I have not tried the VS as I will not fly Virgin, Saying this I had no choice but to yesterday and a TR will be posted on my views when I get time to write it.

I have a great disregard for the man himself, I do not like the service offered on DJ . And his gimmicks etc irk me immensely, I have made a comment re him and his anti BA AA Alliance . I will also be posting a TR on a flight I had no choice of taking on DJ on Thursday from Darwin to Perth .
