Question About DL & Spanair

Wed May 27, 2009 12:20 am

I asked a question a few weeks ago about DL on an upcoming trip to Spain. I am traveling SNA-ATL-BCN on DL and then on to VLC on SpanAir (Air Europa codeshare).

I used miles to get to BCN and then bought my BCN-VLC ticket on orbitz - so they are 2 separate records.

When I check in at SNA, will I be able to check my bags all the way through? I know that SpanAir and DL interline, but will the agent at the desk be able to take care of everything for me?

I don't think you will because when you check in your record will show you only going to BCN, not VLC. You'll probably have to claim your bags in BCN and then re-check them with SpanAir under your new itinerary. I could be wrong, but because they are two different records I don't think you'll be able to hook them together and check your bags all the way through.

As they do interline they are able to check your luggage through but they will not able to issue you a boarding pass. But it could be that they won't through check your luggage as you will have Luggage Piece System (2x 23kg/50lb) on the Transatlantic Flight and only 20kg/43lb on European Flights! But try it anyway and have a safe and nice trip!
