Bring Credit Card To Airport For Verification?

Wed May 27, 2009 6:34 pm

Hi, I recently booked a flight from LCY to AMS on BA. (To fly the BAE-146)

In my confirmation email I found the following:

"Please remember you must bring the card used to pay for this booking to the airport with you, for verification, before you can travel"

What is the reason for this? It's the first time I encountered it. Now for me it wont be a problem but what happens if you would get a new credit card (for example) or forget to bring it? Are there more airlines doing this?

Regards, Martijn

Possibly an effort to reduce c/c fraud? Maybe the kiosks need you to swipe the c/c that you used to make the reservation to print the boarding pass? Not sure on this one. Curious to see what the answer is though!

I started a thread on this a few weeks ago. I have booked one-way LGA-SJU in Nov and was worried as i have now cancelled the card i used to pay with. Most peoples opinion was that it will be fine. U have your I.D. and yr confirmation number.
At the end of the day, there are hundreds/thousands of people flying everyday who have had their flights booked for them by family or friends. We, the travelling public, are able to book flights nearly a year in advance. With the economy in the state its in, many people are swapping CC companies to find better deals. I think the airlines will have a VERY hard time enforcing this "rule" . and if they do, they will have a lot of very unhappy customers.

My advice... dont worry!!

I think pretty much all airlines have other options for reservation verification during check-in. I was in a similar situation a couple weeks ago taking flights on F9 and VX that I paid for months ago with a now-expired card. In both cases I was either able to check in online or at the airport by entering my confirmation code online or into the kiosk at the airport. Nobody ever asked me for a credit card, and I fail to see how it could be necessary if the ticket and any potential fees have already been paid for and you do have some other form of proof that you are the holder of the ticket.

Hi Martijn,
you might be asked for it. I was asked by LH the first time I flew them. Now I've a quite some miles with *A and they don't bother me anymore.
So be aware, just bring the card with you and nothing can go wrong  Wink

Don't worry... except if they ask for it!

There have been some horror stories when airlines have stuck to their policy.

Just be prepared  Smile
