Longest B772 Flight?

Thu Jun 11, 2009 7:00 pm

Was surprised to find that El Al operates a 777-200ER nonstop on its LAX-TLV flights. That's a little over 7500 miles, and it got me to wondering: is it the longest 772 flight out there? I couldn't think of any others to beat it. (Obviously other 777 variants do longer ones.)

I'm curious how close to maximum range the plane is on that route. Especially out of a presumably quite hot TLV in the summer. Anyone have that info?

I think CO's EWR-BOM route is currently the longest 772ER flight. It's about 6700nm/7800sm in distance.

El Al's TLV-LAX-TLV isn't the longest 777-200.

Continental milks its 777s quite well. EWR-HKG is 8065m while EWR-BOM is 7807m. There are other routes, can't remember what they are.
Delta is also a big 777-200ER fan, its ATL-DXB is 7599m and ATL-DEL is 7985m.

All of the above are on the 777-200ER or -200LR.

A bit OT, but I found an interesting albiet old story from Forbes about long flights.

And speaking of 772, here's an article from the longest flight ever: http://www.seattlepi.com/business/247903_longflight11.html

Above flights are both operated by 777-200LRs!

The longest 772ER flight is:

EWR-HKG (CO, ~13.000 km)

EWR-HKG, of course, why didn't I think of that?

For some of the other posters, just to reiterate, I know the -200LR does some very long segments--am only interested in the -200ERs here.

Another long 777-200/ER route is ATL-PVG which was also scheduled as a -200/ER. The route is 7659 miles long although it will be discontinued soon.

A BA charter did BRU-SYD on the 772 once. Can't remember the exact distance 10,000+ miles I think. Not sure if it counts though as its not scheduled.

I am pretty sure then PM Tony Bair chartered a BA 772 for a non-stop LHR-SYD, the pilot apprantly had to ask everyone to sit at the back for takeoff as the plane was so heavy, still i did read it in a newspaper so it might have been hyped up.
