Aeroplan: Limited Seats And Awful Options!

Mon Jun 15, 2009 8:48 pm

I'm booking my girlfriend and I tickets to South America using my Aeroplan miles but the options are nothing short of awful.

Was doing a multi-city:
YYZ-SCL (21/08/09)
SCL-EZE (26/08/09)
EZE-YYZ (5/09/09)

1st and second legs are fine, both are AC92. Now on the way back it gets hairy with only 2 stop routings available on a mix of UA/US/AC:
EZE-IAD-LGA-YYZ
EZE-IAD-YOW-YYZ
EZE-IAD-BDL-YYZ
EZE-IAD-RDU-YYZ

Any thoughts on how I can make the return less painful?

If you're willing to stay in IAD for like 6 hours, there are seats for UA IAD-YYZ 1230pm-201pm flight. Seems the morning flight IAD-YYZ is full.

Aeroplan never has any good options when it comes to Multi-City trips, they always want to get you to your destination with as little or no stops as possible and when you try to book Multi-City they want more miles so unless you are willing to use more miles for a Multi-City booking then your options are really limited.

In this particular case YYZ-SCL and SCL-EZE are both operated by AC92 so there is no penalty. 50,000 miles for the round trip with the stop in SCL.

I guess is depends on the destination with Aeroplan, but the fact you can anything for a departure 3 months from now sounds good to me. Hey, if your outbound flight and middle flight have decent dates/times, that's the main thing. The return flight is usually my last concern.

Maybe this particular routing has reward seats left, but I've made several Aeroplan bookings domestically over the years and have always had to book six months in advance to get any kind of selection (west coast to east coast Canada) for summer or peak periods.
