Alright guys, I got a quick question, especially for you UA people out there.
So come the end of July, I will be moving back home from Germany to Florida. I've got a friend who has offered me a buddy pass (he is an F/O on Republic) and is going to book me FRA-TPA. Now I use to be able to non-rev on another major, but never UA so I am unfamiliar with the whole process. My questions are more geared towards possibility rather than conduct, but all advice is welcome.
It looks like I'll be routed through ORD on my way home to Tampa, and it looks like the ORD flights start at 8:00AM our of FRA. This is no problem, but I was going to see if anyone could tell me what my chances look like of getting home (and even better if there is a chance of me getting a shot at Business or First). The earliest day I can leave here will be July 18 and I would be able to get home July 30 at the latest. Any insight on what days would be best for me to travel? Which days have the lightest loads? I'm sure my best shot would be a Tuesday or Wednesday, but can anyone take a quick look at what my chances are and what the best option is? Our of ORD to Tampa too. I don't mind being stuck in ORD or an airport stateside, but I don't want to get stuck in FRA since it is far from where I am currently living in Germany.
If I get stuck in FRA, I'm sure I'll get slapped with a hotel room of around 100 euros (at the cheapest), and after the cost of the buddy pass, then the cost of the hotel room for getting stuck, would all run about the same price as if I just bought a one-way confirmed ticket on LTU to fly DUS-RSW, so I'm trying to figure out which way is best to go about this.
Also, if I do get stuck in ORD, does UA look to try to route me on alternative routes, like ORD-MCO, or something like ORD-IAD-MCO/TPA or something of the like?
