I'm always surprised why they always comment on food. Airline food has been awful forever and now it's even worst because people actually pay for it. But I think service and how comfortable the aircraft is, is more important than the plastic food they serve.

I didn't know that American, United and US Airways still served food. I guess you learn something new every day.  Smile

Why? America as a nation is much more laid back in many respects when compared with the rest of the world. FAs on American carriers tend to be more friendly and open when compared with the rest of the world. We also are more productive with fewer crewmembers onboard.

You will NEVER have an American flight attendant acting like SQ or any other Asian carrier. It just doesn't fit our personality or our culture.

That's true. Like the EK flight attendants who are encouraged to take numbers from men and other things like that. I like SQ and other carrier flight attendants, but it's not like U.S. airline companies go out and post the sign saying "Good young sexy looking women who weigh under 110 lbs for hire only." Besides, in a lot of countries, there are jumpy about being F/A's because it's really glamorous and they don't have to go to school for it. Americans aren't really thrilled about flying all over the place. Besides, those surveys need to get a life because I have never EVER been treated unfairly by U.S. flight attendant, and because they don't look like supermodels and don't always smile like their face is permanently stuck like that, does not mean that they need etiquette school.

I don't think that the surveys come back with the results that they do because the flight attendants don't look like supermodels. In all honesty, there are rude F/A's out there, and I've encountered some myself.

Definitely agree, I couldn't believe how comfortable the flights that I took with them were...amazing pitch!

American and US - yes in my experience with flying internationally with them food was pretty awful (in coach). Especially on US. United - no. I've had really good meals with them ex. LAX and NRT in coach. Their choices might not be as good as Asian competitors, but food was actually quite good. UA's PS Business offering has also gone downhill, but what they do offer usually tastes pretty good.

Fly with TG,SQ, EK, EY, QR, CX and like you'll see what food can be in the air. SQ's Lobster Thermidor in F is out of this world, as are TG's curries.

For the umpteenth time, NO we are not encouraged to take numbers. IF we are offered a number, we usually politely accept and then toss it in the galley. IF the man or woman in question is being excessively crude about it, they will be met by authorities at the gate.

That damn WSJ article while it paints EK and crew in a good light, it also really distorted what real life is like. I consider myself incredibly lucky to be flying with airline that affords me what I regard as pretty cushy benefits - but its not like cracked out models on tour 24/7. A lot of the crew I fly with have a college degree, myself included, so I don't know what you're on about "not having to go to school for it". It's true, amongst cabin crew we don't have that many Americans - lots of Canadians though (but we do have a good amount of Americans in the flight deck). That said, the Open Day I went to in NYC had about 300 people attend on one of the two days, of which about 10 were selected. So I think it's not accurate to generalize that "Americans aren't really thrilled about flying all over the place" - it's a bit too broad of a statement to make over the entire American population. I don't think most people are implying that because American airline crew don't have the make up, grooming etc. requirements that SQ imposes on their crew they automatically need etiquette school. I have come across some awesome FA's on United and JetBlue who outshine a lot of their peers elsewhere at so called world class airlines. But I've also come across some really rude crew who could stand to learn a thing or two about manners -but guess what - I've come across the same thing at SQ, TG, LH, BA et al. Indeed, at EK I work with a few tossers myself who couldn't give a damn about customer service. It is unfortunately found everywhere at every airline. I get the fact that different airlines from different countries will approach customer service differently and I think that's part of the beauty of flying, you get to experience different cultures in the air before you even get to your destination. But to bang on about yes our way of service is better than the rest because we are more laid back and we don't impose XYZ requirement on our crew makes you no better than the people who say the opposite. Things get done differently from airline to airline, ultimately its up to the consumer to decide what they want to get out of the flight coupled with how much they are willing to pay for it. So long as there is demand, airlines will continue to do what they do.

checkmark  I've encountered them on virtually every airline I've flown on. My best guess about how this survey was formulated was how frequently it occured on what airline. Even then what is considered rude is still very subjective, so no matter what, these customer service surveys will always need to be taken with not a pinch but a pound of salt.

What are you saying? Any evidence to back up your allegations?

Of course you realize, in Singapore at SQ, most flight attendants can speak 3 or more languages and are all University graduates?

Definitely. Last week on DL I actually bought a turkey sandwich....worst $8 I've ever spent. But the aircraft and service were great. Same as everytime I've flown Delta.

No, you are not.

I would not buy airline food on the ground or watch a movie on a 10-inch screen. But when you are stuck at 35,000 feet in a cramped seat for 14 hours with nothing to do, the food (and movie) sure does help pass the time.

Wow, I kinda disagree.

Worst Food: UA: LHR-IAD. It was actually kinda disgusting.  indifferent

Best Y Seats: US Airways E190. They are great planes  Smile

Most of the FAs in the US are nice. Only bad FAs I've had is one on DL and one on US.

Of the US Airways bunch, the East FA's do. The West FA's who were with HP were fantastic!
