Help Me Plan A Daytrip! Catching The 737

Sun Jun 28, 2009 2:25 am

On Nov 15, I need to go back home from a conference, but I will have a day in DC.

I would like to have a quick daytrip for the day in DC. I've been looking at going to the Midwest. I could fly YX to MKE or something. Or I could fly AA's 737 somewhere, but I need to streamline my searches:

I would either like to:

-Fly YX
-Fly a 737 w/winglets (and I'm not flying SWA) so AA, CO, DL, and FL  Smile.

Go and Come Back Sun, Nov 15 morning - afternoon.

OR

Go in Morn, ARRIVE in ORF or PHF in afternoon or evening.

I'm looking to spend less then $150/ticket.

Can I do it?

Keep in mind two things -

A.) November 15 is a LONG ways away. Schedule changes can and will most likely happen. In some cases (AA, DL) it could be to another fleet type (757, MD-80, etc.). With CO, it could switch to a 737-300 (I just flew a CO 737-300 this morning ATL-IAH and had no winglets).

B.) Even in Delta, there are some planes with winglets, some without. I think my last 737-800 flight on Delta a couple of weeks ago was without winglets (can't really remember though). Even if it's coded 73H, it's not unreasonable for a 738 to show up (so you lose AVOD, winglets, etc.).

May I know why do you want to fly B737 !? If I was in MKE, I'd use the chance to fly rare birds such as B717 or the MadDog or even DL DC-9...

For me, I've flown the DC-9 Northwest 4x, MD-80 Delta 2x, and the 717 AirTran 2x. I wouldn't mind flying the DC-9 if it's still NW. But, I've never flown a "w/winglets" bird. I've flown the CRJ and 747, that's it. Also, the last time I flew a 737 was the last year I flew a DC-9.

I'm thinking taking FL to CLT so I'll fly the 737 and 717 and then maybe using a buddy pass back home.

Those aren't rare here. In fact, they're commonplace.

If it were me, I would love to fly on a 734 on US. That way, I would have flown on 734's on AS and US who are the only U.S. operators with the type.

I WAS supposed to fly the 734 in Jan from BWI-CLT, but it got replaced with an E190. Coming up, I'm supposed to fly it again from PVD-DCA, so I hope I'll get it  Smile. I've flown it one or twicebefore, but I wanna fly it again  Smile.

I think I have a win plan for this trip:

AirTran 737: BWI-TPA
American 737: TPA-MIA
American Eagle: MIA-ORF

Total cost with taxes: $169  Smile
