UAL Non-rev Question

If you are listed as a non-rev in Business Class on UA and there are seats open in Business, but economy is oversold, will UA put economy revenue in the Business seats before a listed non-rev?

Any UA insiders care to spill the priority beans?

Revenue always goes before Non-Rev, regardless of what cabin has the seats open or what cabin was booked originally booked.

It's no secret, I suspect that most airlines are that way

Are you flying international? They might bump up 1K's or Premier Ex's. Most of the time, no. Thats why you always dress for First.

My experience with UA is UA will always accomodate Non Revs in the highest available class. I flew as a non rev to DEN a few months ago, and was pleasantly surprised to have the new Business Class seat that they just installed. Great seat.

Another time I went up to the gate and Non Reved to LGA, and got put in F.

And if F or C are full, they will almost always try to accomodate you in Y+. Always dress the part is the best suggestion I can make. Of all the carriers out there, UA always seems to have the friendliest and most knowledgeable Gate Agents out there. Too bad Mr. Tilton isn't as knowledgable.

Yes, it's international. IAD-LHR-IAD. Flights for the rest of July look terrible for non-rev in Y but C and F are good. For example, one flight has 240 people booked in Y on a 777 that holds 197 in Y, but C has about 20 or more seats available. So by itself, it looks safe to list for C or F, but not when in combination with Y oversells.

it doesn't make any sense to an airline to accomodate a non-rev in Business/First and bump an Economy pax by the same time as they have to pay the eco pax a compensation. So the logical solution is to fill up the plane until the top and IF in the end there are seats open then you as a non-rev are lucky to get it.

I'm not familiar with the no-show factor of IAD-LHR, but 43 over in the back and only 20 open upfront doesn't sound too good to my ears.

This is a question I have been trying to get answered without any luck  Sad

I am flying on a Republic Air buddy pass, and from what the Republic employee told me, they are only allowed to list Repb. buddy-passers in coach. Now I don't care what class I get, but the loads I have seen from FRA-IAD July 21 show coach pretty much full, but plenty of seats in Business open.

My question is, being only booked in coach class, if coach is full, and business is wide open, will they bump me, or will they leave me behind and have me wait until a flight leaves with a coach seat open?

They will leave you behind if there are no seats available in the class in which you listed. They will not bump people up to accomodate you. They will bump people up to accomodate revenue passengers in coach if there is an oversell situation. Buddy pass holders have no rights.

When I worked for AS 10 years ago or so.... I flew on NW as a non-rev SEA-MSP-DLH-MSP-SEA. On the DLH-MSP segment, it was on an Avro. Non-revs from my airline, at the time, were not permitted to fly FC. But seeing how coach was full on the flight I was on, I was upgraded to FC, while my then gf was still in coach. It was nice even though I did not ask for nor did I expect an upgrade. I played by the rules.

As for your case, I don't know how the pass policy works on your ticket, but you might score a business seat if coach is full. Who knows. Even if you score a business seat, enjoy it while you can! And....keep your mouth shut about it while traveling in that class.  wink
