QR And Transit In DOH For Non Revs

Wed Jul 22, 2009 1:34 am

Hi all!!

Hope someone can help me with my questions.
Background: travelling on a space available C-Class ZED fare on QATAR airlines.
routing is MXP-DOH-IAD .
1) How does one "transit in DOH??" I have checked the airline and airport websites but to little avail. If arriving can you approach a transit desk to receive your onward boarding pass, or do you need to clear immigrations and check in again?
2) Since I have a standby ticket do I approach the normal Economy counters, or do I go onto the Premium area?

All suggestions and tips are GREATLY appreciated !!!!!
Thanks in advance!!  Wink  Wink  Wink

Whoa....

How'd you come across one of those??

What is your layover/transit time in DOH?? If you have more than 2.5 or 3 hours, I'd suggest you clear immigrations and check in again. If not, try to print out some sort of itinerary and have that along with your paper tickets when you go through transit security.

It varies at airline per airline. The ones I fly on always (US legacies) they almost always have no problem allowing the nonrevs to check in at the premium lanes. At a carrier like QR, however, they may take that far more seriously and want any non-revenue pax to check in using the economy lane. So, to avoid potentially ruffling any feathers, I'd suggest you use the economy lane despite having a C-class ticket.

There are 2 possibilities: First you clear immigration ( subject to 100 Qatari Riyal or so) and then you head to Check-In which is just outside the arrivals hall. ( about 50m).
There you clear a security and then head to the very back of the check-in area as there is the Stand-By Check-In located. ( Right side) You will see some staff standing there  Smile .

2nd is to remain in transit and just go upstairs to the transfer counters or ask any QR staff where you can check-in as a staff for you connecting flight.

I have done both and every time it worked well. Do not go to the Premium Area or even worse the Premium Terminal as you have no access and they will ask you to leave.

If the transit time is long and you do not clear immigration you can purchase a voucher for the Oryx lounge. ( Advisable to purchase it in advance).

Hope this helps. Do not expect a super " Disney-Like" airport but it is quite ok nowadays with quite some space on the upper floor.
