I Will Be Flying ORD-MSP-EAU-RHI On July 31st.

Thu Jul 23, 2009 3:16 pm

Hi everyone.

I will be flying ORD-MSP-EAU-RHI (All on Northwest Airlink/Mesaba).

There will several firsts for me. My first time flying on the CRJ-900 (ORD-MSP), my first time flying on the Saab-340 (MSP-EAU-RHI), my first time flying into EAU, and my first time flying into RHI.

So, what can I expect? How is the CRJ-900 and the Saab-340? Anyting special about the EAU and RHI airports?

An anyting else you can add.

The 900, is just a more comfortable CRJ. Nothing special, I am 6'4" and I think it is tolerable especially on such a short flight. As for the Saab I have never flown on one. I was suppose to but I took a bump for 300 dollar voucher. But I have family in RHI so I have been to the airport numerous times. The airport has one "jetway" but it isn't like the ones at MSP it is one level and the whole terminal is one room. Very small and simple, I like it. As for EAU I have never been so I don't know.

You will be flying entirely on Mesaba airlines - enjoy your flight. As said, the 900 is new, has increased bin sizes, windows, the floor is lowered, new lighting etc... However, the cabin is just as narrow as the 200. It's definitely a better ride however. As far as the saab, many of them have been refurbished with new seats and carpet. The ride will be a little louder, but I think you'll find it acceptable for serving such small cities.

As for the airports... EAU will only be a short stop to drop people off and get more fuel. If you're continuing to RHI, you will not deplane. You might get a new seat for weight and balance purposes, but you won't get off. Therefore, the airport quality and condition is a moot point. It is nothing special, though the restaurant has really good onion rings. RHI, is a bit nicer IMO with a jetbridge for the saab, but is also a one room waiting area.

Can't say much about the CRJ900 but with the Saab, it's a very nice aircraft for short flights. I recently flew MSP-HIB-TVF and all in all it's a very comfortable flight. I had the absolute best flight attendent on that flight as well. It's a very narrow cabin, but I'm 6'0 and just barely touch the ceiling, so unless you're taller you should be fine. The seats are light gray leather with blue carpeting I believe. The only gripes I have are the lavatory is EXTREMELY small and on a hot day, until the engines are started, it will get very hot after pushback from MSP.

Have a safe and fun trip!
