I'll say NW has one of the worst, purely because it ALWAYS crashes my browser when I search for a flight. Fortunately enough, DL's site has the exact same flights, so it's not a huge deal.

I think NZs http://www.airnz.co.nz is a very easy to use web-site, full of information and always full of colour. I've found UA, US, CO and Virgin Blues/Pacific Blues web-site also to be excellent

Best so far:

BA, EZY and FR. All very clear and to the point.

Worst:

Iberia, Air Berlin.

IB won't let you book a seat from LHR-PMI hubbing thru MAD or BCN. BA won't let you book the connection either. Air Berlin throws up dates you don't want and didn't ask for. I can't understand it at all, hence never booked with them.
and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.

One terrible one is KL's.

I booked a trip via OK, BTS PRG AMS and the last leg is on KL, I try to book the same itinerary on KL's site and when country is selected to NLD, I can only select Dutch airports, or foreign airports nearby. When I select Slovakia, I can't even choose BTS! Truly a ridiculous system. Every other airline just allows me to type in a departure and arrival name/IATA code and the site will work out how to fly, not on KL!
Always comparing your flown types list with mine

I've experienced the same thing on QR, I tried to book a flight from JFK to anywhere in Asia but it will only show about half of their destinations. Then I complained and weeks later it got fixed! Amazing customer service......

I like the NW one for a lot of the functionality you have when you go into a reservation. Though as noted above, I hate booking a flight through it - it's very slow. Reason I've been told this (by some nwa.com programmers) is that the res display is pulling off of Orbitz, which adds some clunkiness to it.

I find Delta.com to be mainstream - booking a revenue flight on it isn't too bad. Can't do a whole lot nwa.com does in the itineraries page, but it's getting better. Booking an award ticket on delta.com is just plain awful if you're not doing anything simplistic. If you're doing a domestic round-trip nonstop, you're golden. Adding a connection in can throw it off a little (I've found several times flights at lower inventory buckets than what is really shown). Throw in codeshares and well, good luck. It's a known issue, just one lower on the priority list right now since 90% of award tickets (from what I'm told) are domestic on DL/NW metal only.

AA.com isn't horrible - I find it simple enough to use. Same with United.com - lacking in bells and whistles, but functional. Haven't played around with the new usairways.com, but the old one was clunky and I absolutely hated that they would pitch me a credit card during the booking process (ie you review your reservation, hit purchase, the next screen says do you want a US credit card, please press yes or no to continue and complete purchase).

BA's is good; the booking process is quick and very clear; the various fares and what entitlements they bring are helpfully laid out. Enough information, and not too much.

Ryanair's is pretty difficult to navigate. Iran Air's is largely useless.

Thats how AF's is also. I selected USA for my country and it only shows airports in the US.

Best IMO are:

* Continental
* JetBlue
* AirTran
* Easyjet

Worst:

* British Airways (see note)
* Qantas (clumsy)
* Maya Island Air (I couldn't get purchases to go through)

My main beef with BA's website is that even if you're using the US version, buying a ticket from the US to Europe, according to Chase they clear the credit card through a British bank, which sets off many US banks' "Foreign Internet Purchase" security protocols, resulting in having to call the bank. The US is a huge market for BA, it should have be clearing credit cards through a US bank.

And while it may not seem fair to pick on a tiny Belizian airline, it took me all of 2 minutes to buy tickets on Tropic Air, Belize's other airline...zero hassle.

LAN is USELESS

I hate having to register to buy airfares and to make it worse by the time I actually register the fare is sold out.  banghead

I hate any airline website which lacks a route map , and unfortunately there are a lot of them .

My other pet peeve is that on many sites when you are searching for a return flight and you have already entered an outbound date several months in the future the return still defaults to todays date , so you have to click on the calendar and advance month by month through several months that you could not possibly have for a return date given your outbound date eg Air Mauritius , if I select return and the outbound is in Feb next year when I go to choose the return it will default to Aug 09 and I have to click through month by month .

This is definitely my pet peeve too, it is very annoying having to flip through all the months, but fortunately on the EK website, it give's you directly the month of return , which is obviously after departure, which saves a lot of time and patience too.

AC has a very modern, clean website. AA is very crowded and when you search by schedule it doesn't show the flights in order of schd, just randomly  boggled . I like the UA website, again, very clean format.

AI's is awful and so are many airlines based in Africa. The acceptable ones in Africa are SA's, KQ's, and AT's. MS's isn't anywhere near the standard of a Star Alliance carrier.
