UA Y Plus When Y Is Oversold

Mon Aug 24, 2009 3:10 am

Looking at a seat map earlier got me to thinking, there are times i've noticed, when free Y or the "cramped" section is full, but there are seats open in Y plus, assuming that a passenger does not want to or can't afford to pay 40 plus dollars extra for a seat assignment, how does UA handle them? Are they put in Y plus for free to get them on, or are they just bumped and given DBC?
Yes, I'd like to see airbus go under so Boeing can have their customers!

If I recall they see who paid more for the ticket and move those passengers to Y+ until all passengers are given seat assignments.

I would imagine its cheaper and easier to just give them a Y+ seat.

There is no cost at that point. There is no difference in service between Y and Y+.

How are you quoting me off of someone else's quote ??? In the end it's cheaper to fill the plane by giving ugrades to Y+ than deny boarding someone and giving them a travel voucher when there are seats on the plane no matter what class they are...

It's actually very easy to do and it's a common mistake. I do it sometimes. He highlighted Nws 2002's comment and hit quote selected text in your reply box instead of his.

UA will put paid pax in Y+ if they did not buy a Y+ ticket before they put any BP-5's or NRSA on the plane it just is easier to move them forward to Y+

It's part of a broader plot to destroy you.  Big grin

As I mis-misquoted you earlier, it's not CHEAPer, it's FREEer to give "upgrades." There is no difference in soft product between Y and Y+. The difference between the hard products is 2-4 inches (and a marginally different looking seat).

Once passengers have checked in (i.e. once the last upgrades are sold and FF Elites are upgraded at check in), there is no lost revenue to the airline.

And of course there are a lot of people already going to be moving around when they hand out gate upgrades.

There will never (BETTER NEVER!) be a time when a UA aircraft leaves a paying pax behind and there is a seat open in any of our domestic cabins.
