Delta Diamond Medallion

Mon Aug 24, 2009 8:51 am

Dear All
Thinking out aloud...
I have the opportunity to cross 125 K miles this year on Delta and become a Diamond elite flyer. But other than getting a few more (eventually unusable) upgrade coupons and other less- consequential 'rewards' there isn't any value in becoming Diamond elite. So, I am considering not crossing the 125 K... instead fly up to may be 120 K, and then use the rollover scheme to start 2010 with 45 K medallion miles.
Can you poke holes at my thinking? Is there anything I am missing? Is there any real value in being among the first batch of Diamond flyers?
Thanks a lot!

Diamond gets free club room access, depends how much you want/would use that feature.

but at the same time starting with 45K next year will make it a lot easier to reach platinum or higher next year.

Nothing wrong with that logic - I know a few people that are gunning for 120k MQMs this year so they won't go over.

Depends on what your travel habits are. I'm a Platinum that thinks spending 50k EQMs with either AA or UA and making mid-tier there is more beneficial than the perks that Diamond gives.
