NYC-SYD Best Business Class?

Wed Aug 26, 2009 10:10 pm

Hi
In 2010 my family and i hope to fly to Sydney, Australia. We were looking at middle of February for two weeks. We live near New York and any airport would work

There are four of us. I was wondering based on opinion which airline has the best Business Class for the best price preferably on Star or One World.

I'd say your best options are:

OW -
QF all the way from JFK.

Star -
UA p.s. to LAX or SFO then connect with their SYD flight featuring their new premium product.

The best option would definitely be QF. QF 108 is the same plane service all the way to SYD via LAX. Plus, the flight will most likely be rather empty on the JFK-LAX portion since QF cannot sell domestic tickets, which always nice from a passenger perspective.

If you want THE best experience (drawn out) I'd take BA Club World through London and either SIN or BKK. Yes it's longer, but that's your BEST bet if you're looking to fly in style. Price it out, if there's not much difference I'd say go BA. Otherwise, I'd definitely go QF over UA.

If you are willing to run around the world then can do Emirate, Singapore over Europe etc..

Otherwise the UA or QF options are the most direct ones on OW and Star.

You will likely find UA fares cheaper than QF. In researching my trip plans for 2010 to SYD, there is a $7000 difference between UA and QF, and as I am considering DL as well, DL at present appears to be matching UA and some promotional VAustralia fares. The new UA business class product is receiving rave reviews for comfort on the long-haul B744 fleet, and the UA p.s. service from JFK to SFO or LAX is definitely a premium product.
I am as well considering the suggested routing via London using BA and QF. Very pricey for the business class service; however, I can fly Premium Economy from the US, stopover in LHR, stopover in SIN and return SYD to US for the price of 2 business class tickets on UA or DL just to SYD via LAX or SFO with no stopovers. I would fly the segments LHR-SIN-SYD-LHR on QF as their premium economy service is superior to BA. I would fly BA just to/from London and fare is the same using BA and QF due to their anti-trust approvals for pricing.
So definitely shop around, and enlist the aid of a travel agent to research the possibility of "net" or consolidator tickets that likely are available in the New York-Australia market.
Price as well the QF premium economy service on QF108/107. Great service on a direct 1 stop B744 and will save you a ton of $$$ to spend on your vacation Down Under.
Good Luck with your trip plans,
Thomas

Is it possible to take the QF108 as far as LAX and then change on to the A380 flight from there?

Mate, if money is not an issue don't even consider UA if you can go on SQ. Catch the A345 all business class to SIN and continue on to SYD on the A380.

Cheers from Brisbane,

Peter

Since you later said you might be on Star, why not try NZ?

Air New Zealand have no First Class so the Business is kinda in between both. I'd also bear them in mind. Something like JFK-LAX/SFO on UA then SFO/LAX-AKL-SYD on NZ. Might be a little longer but the service onboard will be fantastic.

The 744 would be so nice to fly on from JFK-LAX.
It's all about the destination AND the journey.

Yes! You can actually transit to any international flight on any airline - as long as it is booked on the same ticket and the layover must be no longer than two days I think.

You could also try AC... They have same plane service from YYZ with a stop in YVR and are a member of Star. They have the pod sleeper seats in the J cabin which are definitely worth it on such a long flight!  zzz
