Booking On With A CC

Mon Sep 14, 2009 1:09 am

I need some hhelp regarding a most unusual practice I've run run into.
I'm trying to book a flight on, for a family member. The flight is originating in Europe for a R/T to the US. I want to pay with my CC however when I get to the paying part it tells me that the passenger will have to show the CC at checkin. I've never encountered this ridiculous rule before. Surely I'm not the only person that's ever bought a plane ticket for a relative. So here are my questions: Does LH really enfore this silly rule? Is there a way around it? Any help would be appreciated.

I think what they mean is if you buy an etix (electronic ticket) it will be booked and stored on the CC you paid the flight with. So your relative needs YOUR CC for the checkin machine to get to his ticket and boarding pass. I guess this is the problem here.
Maybe you can change that, if you book it to HIS (or HER) CC and you do the payment on your CC. Don't know if that is possible. Otherwise just call Lufthansa and ask them what to do. I think the number is: 1-800- L U F T H A N S A  Big grin

Good luck

Any form of photo-ID should do the job at check-in.
Even most of LH's self-service check-in kiosks nowadays accept passports as identification, but it might be wise to check-in with an agent not via a machine.
TOH if your family members uses online check-in he/she only will have to pass over the BP´s and the passport when dropping luggage.

The Check-in agent will be able to retrieve your booking via several means:
- Booking Reference (your family member should bring along a printout of the reservation).
- Customer name (to be matched against a photo-ID)
- FF number
- CC number

Furthermore, IIRC, in the booking process you are able to select your way how to identify yourself. Just select Passport number.

I've been asked only once (on my first time ever on LH actually) to show my CC at check-in, and indeed, they asked for it. I was not able to use the self service check-in kiosk, and had to proceed to their counter to get myself checked in by a staff, and I had to show her my CC.
