EK DXB-MEL-AKL Should I Leave The Aircraft In MEL?

Fri Oct 16, 2009 10:51 pm

Hi,

I am going to fly DXB-MEL-AKl and back with EK. During the stop in MEL should I leave the aircraft and pass through security control or not?

Thanks,
Sven

I think you'll find they force you to leave.
I recently flew BNE-SIN-DXB and v-v, and even though the stop is only for just over an hour in SIN both directions, they make you leave the aircraft taking all your belongings with you, then of course having to pass through security when re-boarding. A real pain in the neck, especially as when you're disembarking they're telling you to be back at the gate in 30 minutes!

Thanks!

I was asking because a few years ago a friend of mine was traveling HEL-BKK-SIN and back
and on one way he had to leave and pass the security and on the other way it was possible tostay in the aircraft... .

Sven

Certain destinations have different rules and it also sometimes where the transit is onto and what the airlines want to.

But you most certainly have to pass through security here in MEL, please be mindful that you won't be able to take any liquids gels or aerosoles through security here in MEL, this includes duty free you may have bought in DXB or any prior destination and we don't acept it for check-in either. No one has any problems getting back through to the gate in time either, unless they manage to go out for a smoke in which case they won't make the flight lol. PM me if you have any more questions regarding transiting through MEL  Smile

I was on EK419/418 SYD-BKK-DXB this month and westbound you had the choice of getting off in BKK and eastbound you had no choice and had to leave the aircraft. Also watch out for Smi0006's warning about duty free, as several pax on EK418 got caught with DXB duty free, lost the lot!

It doesn't normally happen for duty free in DXB becuase they normally place it in a special securtiy box for you and it gets checked into the hold and you are provided with a bag tag. You can collect it in AKL if you want. But duty free from destinations prior to DXB cannot be checked in in this manner, and no duty free can be checked-in in MEL.

Many thanks for your advices!
By the way in MEL I would go through the security only or some sort of passport control too?

If DXB duty free is soo good perhaps I should visit it on my way back to Europe  Smile

Well in Dubai I purchased two bottles of spirits...both of these in Australia at normal price are around $50AUD for 750ml, in Dubai I purchased 1L bottles for around $20 each.

So yes, Dubai duty-free is excellent!

Well sometimes it must break down because the cabin crew made a particular point of it. There were some half dozen upset pax.
