Transfering At LHR Term 3 To Term 5

Sat Nov 07, 2009 10:22 am

Flying MIA-MXP on 24 Nov 09 and for the first time transitting LHR from AA term 3 into the new Term 5for a BA (AA codeshare) flight.. Question is: What does this transfer involve? I assume AA will check me in all the way to MXP fronm MIA. Upon landing at LHR will I have to pass British immigration and customs or just immigration. Will I not have to claim bags. I know I will have to take the Heathrow Express (free I gather from reading BAA's web page) to Terminal 5 where I have to reclear security. I'm assuming there is no sterile connection from AA terminal 3 to BA terminal 5.

Also, my layover at LHR is 3 hours. If the connection involves clearing Bcustoms/immigrationWill I be able to walk around the central terminal area to visit it to see the progression of the remodelings to term 1 and 2?

Missing baggage... (at least, that's what I got from connecting AA to BA (JFK-LHR-AMS)

No, they're labelled through to your final destination.

There is a bus transfer between these terminals, it runs via airside. After vacating the bus, you redo security.

That's all actually...

I'm not sure about that??
My understanding is that when you arrive at T3 you'll go to the connections center and then you'll catch a bus to T5....I stand to be corrected though!

From Heathrow's site.... Plan on 2 hours for the full transfer. Here's the URL:

Yes there is. You can connect between all LHR terminals without clearing immigration/customs. There is only an additional security check. Just follow the "Flight Connections" signs for T5.

Cool, thanks all! I had a feeling LHR connection was going to be worse than that. Also, great news on the bus connection. Makes it much easier!
