Longest Route Operated By Regional Airline?

Tue Dec 29, 2009 11:00 pm

I don't know if it's been discussed before, but I was wondering what route there is in the world that is operated by a Regional Airline. The one that comes to my mind is SFO - SAT with United Airlines' SkyWest Partner with a CRJ-700. For me, that's way to long to be stuck on a regional plane...

Is there a longer route that is operated by a regional airline?

being on a CR7 is a comfy ride..........

COEX was operating the XRJ IAH-BOI, which is the same distance.

Although I view the CR7, CR9, E70, E90 to a diff level than the ERJ/CRJ, AC is running IAH-YUL which is about 100 miles longer than SF0-SAT

The only routes mentioned, so far, that go north of 1500 miles are:

IAH-YUL: 1584 mi
ATL-BIL: 1525 mi
DEN-YOW: 1517 mi

SFO-MCI comes close at 1499 mi.

The rest, SFO-SAT included, are all short of 1500.

The AC Jazz CRJ 700 have PTVs and a Business class section, which is already pretty rare for a regional jet of that size. IMO that makes it much more agreeable to fly on a longer route, it's probably even better than some older mainline aircraft... but I'd have to test that in order to judge.

I did ORD-GEG earlier this year on a United Express CRJ-700 each way. Wasn't bad in First, but I wouldn't want to do that in coach (even Economy Plus).

I would think the longest in the former NW network is MSP-YVR. It reaches about 1,434 miles. Good thing it's on a CP E175 and not a CRJ.

There have been some occasions where the CRJ-705 (actually a CRJ-900) normally opperating the flight was downgauged to a CRJ-200 (which doesn't have J or PTVs). At a block time of 3hr 53min (with a -705), THAT is a loooooong flight in the little CRJ-200.

There is a longer route: Lufthansa Cityline used to fly the CRJ-700 on MUC-EVN, which is 1,699 miles, but it's now flown with an Airbus. It might have been FRA-EVN, in which case it would be 1,860 miles but, as the Airbus currently flies MUC-EVN, I suspect it wasn't.

TIP-MAN, at 1,620 miles, is flown by Libyan Arab Airlines with the CRJ900, but I don't think they have a regional arm, so it's 'mainline'.

Air Iceland operate F50 and DHC8-100 routes from RKV to several destinations in Greenland on charters, they are all around the 500+ mile mark, entirely over water.

Air Nostrum fly the CRJ on MAD-CFU, which is 1,243 miles.

Air Baltic operate the F50 from Riga to Simferopol which is 927 miles, the F50s generally serve their regional routes only although I don't think it's a separate airline, but it's a looong way in a prop regardless.

MSP-Jax is 1,100 plus miles on an E-170.

I saw this for the first time the other day and it suprised me that it was flown by a NW Connection Carrier.

That isn't to bad. The E-jets are a lot better than a CRJ-200 or an ERJ-145.

IAH-YYC on AC Jazz CRJ705s is longer than all of those, 1747 mi (1518 nm).

I don't know if it quite fits under the topic, but I did fly a B-1900 ISN-DEN once n/s ( 587 miles ).

It was a back-up flight on a cold weather day, still weight restricted though.
I love the smell of jet fuel in the morning
