Flown On The Same Plane Twice?

Sat Jan 02, 2010 9:55 pm

Has anybody flown on the same aircraft with the same registration twice or maybe more. With hundreds of aircraft in an airlines fleet what are the chances of this happening.

I had a recent experience when I was flying home on a 757 and I looked at the registration # (N523UA) and it looked familiar. I checked pics when I got on the plane and sure enough it was the same A/C.

P.S. the first flight was ORD-DCA and the second was PHX-ORD.

Depends on the airline and the passenger. For example, there are people who live in Hawaii who fly Hawaiian (or flew Aloha) on inter-island flights regularly for business purposes (in some cases several times a week) or to visit relatives. It would seem to me the odds are quite high that these individuals have flown on the same aircraft on many occasions.

Remember that there are more countries in the world then just the US, where in general the airline fleets are smaller so higher chances to end up in the same plane again.

I flew more than one time on the following aircrafts:

I don't really mind getting on the same plane, its kinda fun like in my first example to fly her again after so many years. However you log less registrations which is the only downturn. I know a fellow aviation enthousiast who goes insane when he's about to fly the same reg.

Flown On The Same Plane Twice?

Sun Jan 03, 2010 12:01 am

I have quite a few times now. Here are my favorite times:

N949AN (AA 737-800), I flew it on a Saturday IAD-LAX
On Sunday, the next day, I met my family arrving at SNA. They arrived on N949AN!
A few months later I flew on it again LAX-DFW

My best example, which is actually documented in a trip report, is where I flew on BA's 777 G-VIIY on two different itineraries, in the same exact seat! So I got pictures before and after it switched into the new interior. It also has a really loud squeak when the spoilers go up that they didn't fix in the two years between times that I flew it. I made a thread on that here somewhere in Civil I think.

Here's the link to the trip report, and within the trip report are some before/after shots.
DFW-LHR-DFW On BA To Farnborough (by DFW13L Jul 30 2008 in Trip Reports)
See, I knew American Eagle was first class all along!

I'm glad someone realises this.

Maybe more of a challenge would be to ask if you have flown on every plane in an airline's fleet.

With my airline of choice only having 51 aircraft the chances of having flown on the same aircraft more than once are very high.
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

I flew SMF-SEA and back a few times during the last days of the AS MD-80s. Since they only had a few left at the time, and I was specifically booking MD-80 flights, it's not surprising that I ended up flying on N975AS twice.

I've also done *lots* of flights on my company's corporate air shuttle. Since they have 6 ERJ-135s, and I've flown much more than 6 flights on them, I know I've flown on every one of those aircraft many times.

I'm sorry to say, my list of repeat birds is endless.
N767NC,N770NC and N787NC, a couple of DC9-50's.....Ten trips each according to my log.
For model 30's, N924RW,N1332U,N962N,N964Nand N994Z.....eight times...each bird.
There are four 757's I have been on five times.
The fun repeats are with one airline and years later, the same bird with another.
I have dozen or so of those.

Just yesterday I flew on the same A321 for 3 flights! BUD-MUC-FRA-LHR

It was scheduled as an A319, A321 then A320 but after some substitutions, I was on the exact same A321 for all 3 legs!

The only ones I know of for sure are:

G-VIIG (a BA 777) as I emigrated on it and then a few years later my wife and I flew aboard the same aircraft. My wife was in the same seat that I emigrated in.

B-HUB (a CX 747). Had it on consecutive flights (for me, not the aircraft!) and was in the same seat on each flight. We flew it LHR-HKG and then five days later on HKG-BKK. When we boarded at HKG I noticed the A/C wasn't working (as had been the case leaving LHR) and there was a rather familiar scratch on the PTV ahead of me!

Unless I'm writing a trip report I don't bother looking up the registration but statistically I've flown a few BA's 747-400s more than once.

Quite a number of times unfortunately, especially with Air Southwest, although that can't be helped due to their small fleet. I only regret duplicates such as the Air China and LAN Chile A340s, where the flights have been intercontinental and spread out by weeks to months, yet I've still scored the same registration twice. Many are same day flights:

I'm shocked not to see GONR (841) on this list? I'be been on it about 5 times, surely you've been on it like 17,000 times. No surprise FGRC(821) tops your list, we only see it about 5 times a day.

Just once on an actual mainline jet, on an A320 N951LF back when it was in Airtran colors. I flew it ATL-LAS, and then again LAS-ATL

Last year I flew LGW-MCO in Club and got G-VIIT out bound, the only 777 at the time out of LGW with the new CW cabin, 8 days later it was waiting at Orlando to bring me back, really felt Lucky that day.  Big grin

Yep - flew on a US A321 (N176UW) 3 times actually! CLT-PIT, PIT-SEA on same day, two different flight numbers - this was on a Thursday. Then on the following Sunday I flew SEA-DEN on UA and then DEN-CLT on, you guessed it, N176UW

Yes, it has happened to me -- in fact, just last month. I boarded a JetBlue A320 called "Song Sung Blue" in Ft Lauderdale and realized that it was the same plane I had taken several years ago from JFK-Long Beach. I like to sing this song on karaoke, so the name stuck in my head!

In 2008, I flew an El Al 777 called "Carmel," and sure enough, that was the same plane that took me back to the States a few weeks later. When I remarked on it, one of my fellow passengers (who was on both flights as well) said, no, we flew from EWR-TLV on a 737. My son and I looked at each and laughed, but we didn't bother to explain that a 737 could not fly this route nonstop. We just agreed with him and let him think he was correct!

Quoting Rollingstar101 (Thread starter):
With hundreds of aircraft in an airlines fleet what are the chances of this happening.

Remember that there are more countries in the world then just the US, where in general the airline fleets are smaller so higher chances to end up in the same plane again.

I'm glad someone realises this.

Please tell me what prompted such a hostile response? I read Rollingstar101 entire post and could not find any reference to a specific country?

I've taken N678DL twice, a Boeing 757-232 belonging to Delta Air Lines. In 2002 or 2003 (I think), I flew JFK-AUA on her. That was my first Delta and PW-powered 757. I flew her again in 2007 ATL-SJO on DL245. I remember seeing the plane taxiing and I was thinking, "Wow! It's been a long time." Once it began turning right into my gate, I said out loud, "No way." Unfortunately, I haven't been on a -232 since then (when I flew PTY-ATL they gave us N900PC, a -26D originally destined for Shanghai Airlines but ended up going to DL).

I was also on a sightseeing trip to the Grand Canyon from VGT-1G4 with Scenic Airlines, and the return was on the same DHC-6-300 VistaLiner. I don't know if that really counts, as the plane never left and we even left our stuff on the plane.

474218...I think he ment small countries have airlines with smaller fleets.
Compare an airline in...... example... Bolivia vs Delta Air in the USA or Air France.
I see his point. Its easier to ride the same plane twice or more with a carrier that has 16 planes than one that has 600.....or more.

My highest "score" is:

I´vew flown 4 times with the same aircraft with two different ones:

1) D-AHLI (B 737-500) of Hapag Lloyd Express/Tuifly
2) D-COSA (Dornier 328) of Cosmos Air twice and Cirrus Airlines twice ...

I 've flown many times the same AZ md80 on GOA FCO routes.
Recently I remember I-DAVL "Reggio Calabria" , that i took both out and inboud flight.
Sadly this aircraft has been phased out in december and sold to Safair.
Some years ago it happened to me a funny matter: I was flying from MXP to BUD via ZHR with a swiss RJ 100.
When we embarked in Zurich for the second leg of the trip, we can see we was on the same aircraft with the same crew!

Hello(!),

Last year when in the States I did a day trip from Chicago OHare to Minneapolis and back on United Express. I was only in Minneapolis airport for a couple of hours and then I headed straight back. I'm pretty sure the plane was the same one I came on as it had the same pilots and crew(!) That's I think the only time I've knowingly been on the same plane twice (I might have done it on Ryanair but they have so many planes that it's probably not that likely).

Thu Jan 21, 2010 6:12 am

I've been on all the current BA A320's at least twice and a few of them 3 times except one of them.

I flew on G-EUUX for the first time last week.
and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.
