Fare Reliability Of Booking On Orbitz.com

Sun Jan 03, 2010 12:15 am

I am researching, predominantly on Orbitz.com and company websites, for a summer trip from West Palm Beach to Bangkok via Atlanta on Korean then onto Toronto; in business class. Toronto back to PBI would be on Delta; no problem.

I can save over $2000 by going to Miami to connect to the same Korean Airlines flights through Atlanta. Orbitz shows from Miami at $2781 and from West Palm at $4460 connecting to the same Korean flights in Atlanta. Korean Airlines website shows a fare from Atlanta for $4400.

Obviously, I would go to Miami to save several thousand dollars which I plan to put to good use flying Emirates business class from BKK to YYZ (DXB to YYZ on the whale jet).

Can I trust that the Miami fare is valid on Korean business class; it says “Business”, if I purchase on Orbitz? I have only booked through airline websites in the past and don’t want any surprise when I get to the Korean gate in Atlanta only to find out there is a “problem”.

My questions are:

How reliable are the fares shown when booking on Orbitz.com?

How safe is my reservation and seat assignment?

Can I ditch the Miami to Atlanta and buy a one way PBI to ATL and the Korean segments still be valid since it is two different air carriers?

Any advice or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Don't do it! It may invalidate your entire itinerary - it doesn't matter that the flight will be booked on 2 separate carriers: it's still one reservation and if you no-show on the first sector the whole thing could be cancelled

I find Orbitz reliable - just check it's really KE metal ex-ATL and make sure to try and select your seats online if possible with Orbitz (that'll clue you in on the booked cabin)

You can always call KE after the booking is done to verify the details of the reservation!

Have you tried DL.com? I imagine they would show KE codeshares and there's probably some kind of best price guarantee over orbitz...

I've booked with orbitz before and got a good fare, seat assignment and no troubles.
The fare dropped slightly even after my booking, no refund was given (I'm not a US citizen).

Yes.

And it will make you laugh, even called them. I think they must be (or better be working on their combined wesite as it affects revehue). It won't handle PBI to BKK; got an error message, and ATL to BKK was 2 stops and upwards of $6000 with a 21 hour layover in DTW or MSP. With my routing all the sites I checked, it is cheaper to buy one way tickets.

I plan on calling KE to also verify prior to purchase and then add my Skymiles number. Korean cleary shows their 747 metal on Orbitz.

Thanks for both responses. Greatly appreciated.
