Some CX Questions (HKG-CEB-HKG)

Sat Jan 09, 2010 6:35 am

Hi everyone...

I have just purchased a HKG-CEB-HKG flight on CX outbound on 11 Mar 2010 and inbound on 17 Mar 2010. I do however have a few questions regarding the interior and AVOD updates on CX aircraft.

1: I am reading that the new seats and new AVOD are only available on long haul aircraft. Is it correct? How is the IFE on the short-medium haul flights? The website says they says no movies on flights shorter than 02:40 and my flights are scheduled to be 02:40 hrs.

2: While booking the flights, the aircraft were 773 and 330 but my confirmation came as 77A and 330. Does this mean that the outbound flight will be on a long haul configures aircraft?

3: How are the comfort level of seats of new and old configuration?

4: Rather unrelated but has anyone stayed at the Shangri-La in Cebu? Any comments?

Thanks in advance...

While I'm not familiar with the CEB flight, I have done the MNL flight a few times.

At least on the MNL flight, they only had a few programs shown when i flew on the 773 and A330, both in J. If I remember correctly, if you are flying in Y on the 773, the new Y seat have been installed, but didn't get to try it. Did try the Herringbone J seat on the 744, which a bit too short to try.

MNL and probably CEB may usually see those planes, but can easily be changed out at the day of departure. Other than the 744 flight, my experience with the MNL flights sees plane changes and you can either get the 2-class or 3-class one. Most likely you won't know it until you board the plane. Otherwise I love taking CX on flights to MNL and connecting through HKG.

1. This is correct. AVOD is only available to B747-400s (74A), B777-300ER (77A), A340-300 (34B) and selective A330-300 (33B) doing Aussie run. Since your flight is less than 3 hours, entertainment program will be consisted of short program and features such as Friends and etc. The IFE will still be the old looping system.

2. As per your confirmation, yes, it is true that your outbound flight will be on B777-300ER and your return flight will be the regional A330-300. Having said that, I won't read too much into your confirmation as CX is very well known for last minute aircraft rotation so you won't really know until you get onboard.

3. Are you traveling J or Y. For the old product, personally I think the economy seats are more than adequate for regional service, similar to what other airline is offering. As for J, I actually quite like it. Its an old regional product but still work perfectly fine. If you travelling J on the new product, I would say you won't be really able to appreciate the seat as its might get a bit narrow if you seat upright but it will work perfectly fine when its in the bed mode. Economy product is different from all other airlines as the seat does not recline and it slides forward.

4. Never been to Cebu before so can't answer you.

Its been ages since I last flew CX so I can't really comment on their IFE. My last flight with them was on CX 905, the late night arrival into Manila (I think it was 23:05 back then) on a Tri-Star for crying out loud!

If you are referring to Shangri-La Mactan Island Resort, then it's stunningly beautiful, and the hotel staff are top notch. Enjoy!  Smile
