How To Get An IL 86 Or 96 In Europe

Mon Jan 18, 2010 10:17 pm

I see that IL 86 was banned from Europe and phased out by many russian airlines.
Il 96 are still flying with CIS airlines but are really rare in Europe.
Have you any suggestion to take for a short trip (one or to day) a russian widebody?

thank you

I fear the only scheduled Il-96 service worldwide is Cubana, but I guess they will be around for several more years. Aeroflot has officially retired them from scheduled service, but it might be worth investigating if they serve some high-demand routes during the summer period (AYT?).

Il-86 is the same fate, no more scheduled service except maybe some occasional high-demand routes. I remember the Atlant-Soyuz Il-86s were scheduled to be retired last week of August 09, but there are still photos of them in the database up to October 09 I think.

I would recommend to check Amadeus schedules for the coming summer peak period.

Btw, if some is able to look into Amadeus, are there still any scheduled CU Il-62 flights in 2010?  shy

SU's IL-96 are scheduled for this summer to AYT, PKC, UUS and can be booked online. Also they'll be chartered by tour-operators for flights to HHG and GOI (?not sure about this one)

The ILW is still in use by Ural as well, today's DME-SVX 5:45pm flight for example is operated by ILW, however this is rare, and not bookable on their site (perhaps a few days before only).

Book the last SU Il-96 flight SZG-SVO on 06MAR. 2 flights scheduled that day. Fares oneway about 240 Euro in Y.

Wow I am surprised they're being retired so soon. I knew Aeroflot canceled their orders for them but I had no Idea they were being retired.

Those should be around for many years to come. They are brand new and the most recent delivery was within the last year or two.

I think Cubana has 1 more left in their fleet.
Not sure where it flies though.

They are not (yet) retired for good, they're scheduled also for summer flights, as Loran said mainly high demand destinations. SZG-SVO is seasonal, only in winter, ending 06MAR.

Ooops, thanks for the correction. Good news, here is another evidence that they are not retired yet:

I have been mislead by the official retirement announcements numerous times. My assumption was based on some topics from last year, when SU was quoted that the Il-96s will be all gone by the end of the summer schedule 2009. The same seems to have happened to the Ural and Atlant Soyuz Il-86s. But good news anyway.

Not sure where it flies though.

It is flying to CCS on an irregular basis. Only Amadeus schedules will tell which days.
