Argentina Domestic: AR Or LA?

Sat Jan 23, 2010 5:31 pm

Dear all,

for domestic flights in Argentina, we can choose LA or AR. Do you have any experiences? What is recommended?

Thanks

LAN Argentina is the way to go pretty much without exception. Unfortunately the have not yet expanded enough to cover as much of the country as AR does however heres what you can expect.

Generally a friendly crew if you speak Spanish you might be able to spark a conversation
A very clean airplane
A small snack box containing some peanuts cookies
Complimentary drinks including beer although I am not sure about the wine or if there is any.
Generally a little bit less chaos and more reliability.
I know the head of maintenance for LAN Argentina at AEP personally as he is a good friend of my dads and he assures me that operations are very safe and they most certainly appear to be

I hope that AR can eventually be on par. Although I have to say that there has been quite some improvement in the last couple of years and also personally knowing a 737-200 Instructor for the airline (737-200 has been retired) now turned A340 captain he always lets us know on the status of things and they are improving.

I'd strongly second LAN recommendation unless the fare or schedule is much superior on AR.

If you are a OW frequentl flier, you can accrue miles with LAN Argentina also.

I opened this thread with a little trepidation, but pleased to read all of the endorsements for LAN as I will be flying with them next week between AEP and USH!

Can you keep me informed how it was on your LA-flights?
Thanks

Love Argentina, traveled several time domestic routes, but AR F/A are the rudest I have ever met. You will have a MUCH better notion of service with LA.

I was in Argentina this month and last. While I didn't fly LAN domestically, I did fly LAX SCL-COR, Aerolineas Argentinas COR-AEP-BRC and Austral BRC-AEP. I found the LAN and AR flights to be very similar, but out of the three, I preferred the Austral flight the best. First of all, it was on an MD-80, which are always more fun than the more modern jets. Second, the food was more substantial than on the other two (a cold chicken plate with rice, bread and crackers), as opposed to snack boxes on the other two. Granted, the cabin interior and seats were a little worn, but the whole experience felt more unique than in AR or on LAN. BTW, can anybody explain to me what exactly the difference is between Austral and Aerolineas Argentinas, corporate wise?

Was in that awesome country back in October and I flew LAN for most of my domestic flights with the exception of Andes for the IGR-SLA leg.

LAN was always on-time and convenient with a very decent service on-board and neat planes.

Go for LAN, AR is also quite reknown for the strikes...

The relationships between the 2 can be rocky at times. Austral was originally its own airline along with AR and had nothing to do with each other and then they were almost one. At the moment since AR has been put back into control under the state both airlines are now sister companies owned by the state. The paint schemes used to be exactly the same and have now slightly changes with Austral having a Billboard livery.

I only flew LA, AEP-FTE return in 2007, brand new A320, niece crew, both flights on time, complimentary food and drinks. Very solid service - would fly again with LA. Hope to get on AR next time though or better still, on Austral's MD80!

I just got back from Argentina this morning, and having flown the following routings with LAN;

AEP-USH
USH-FTE-AEP

I can confirm that the service was professional, friendly and comfortable, and they were on of the the best short-haul airlines I've flown with.

I would most certainly recommend choosing LAN, and if possible, reserve yourself a seat (at no extra charge) in rows 1-4 for a little bit of very welcome extra legroom.

Hope this helps.
