The topic says it all, really. I was on a DL flight (JFK - ATL) a few weeks ago. We pushed back from the gate on time, but then we stopped pushing back just after a few meters. After a little while the Captain advised we were waiting for some luggage from a few passengers that had departed to ATL on an earlier flight, but whose luggage was left behind here in JFK, and that he thanked us for our patience, and he mentionned the passengers in ATL would be grateful to get their luggage. After 30 minutes we finally resumed pushing back from the gate.
How common is it for a flight to depart late because it was waiting for luggage from people on another flight? What if people miss connections on their following leg (it's a fair call to say the delay was only 30 minutes on my flight and usually you still have time to connect if you run through the terminals) but it CAN happen and I assume longer delays could increase those risks.
And doesn't delay = loss of money ?
