Will Flying Ever Be The Same After The Recession?

Mon Feb 15, 2010 10:10 pm

Hello! It occurred to me that I had not seen this in a forum, and I was curious what everyone thought. These are some of the things that have changed that I am curious about:

1. Charges for luggage.

2. Charges for in-flight food.

3. Other heavy fees that did not used to be around.

4. Anything else that has changed since approximately 1995.

Thanks!

5 Charging for drinks

6 Charges when a seat is requested (like overwing)

But to answer your question, no air travel will never be the same. We have been on a path in making air travel less desirable and IMO avoidable.

I frequently fly SQ and now even they are charging for extra legroom seats at 50 SGD per sector. I guess these are hard times for the industry? SQ used to have almost everything free of charge until recently when more "services" come out. Well but not to mention the route I frequently fly has the prices lowered by about 15% or so.
One day I will fly around the world!

the state the economys are in and the upcoming of the LCC are changing airlines, drastically.

In a few years:

My prediction is that for flights of up to 4 hours we will see one class LCC style service and high speed rail networks. For medium-long haul ops we will see a somewhat better service but still very undressed and a slight premium product for the wealthy on a selection of airlines.

That is if everyone starts to drive a electric car and put solar panels on their roofs, otherwise we won't have any fuel to be flying at all!

Also i think that ticket prices will rise again.
