Who Has The Highest Number Of Seats On Airliners?

Sun Feb 21, 2010 10:46 am

I was surprised to see that Monarch's A332's have 374 seats on seatguru. That's slightly less than the 3-class seating capacity of a 742 for an aircraft with only 70% of the 742's empty operating weight.

I wonder who today operates the highest number of seats on each of today's contemporary airliners?

It will be hands down Air Australs A380. It will be all Y configured. So There will be around 840 seats in this aircrafts.
As you may presently yourself be fully made aware of, my grammar sucks.

Corsair had around 580 seats on their 744s. So all the claptrap about not waniting to be on an A380 because too many people on board should be contemplated with that in mind.

They retained the SQ seating layout as well as all the seats, so it had a very large business class section, which was very rarely well populated. Economy was pretty much always full or there abouts.

Not sure if they currently have any in this configuration, but I flew on an El Al 744 around 2001-2003 with all-coach seating. LOTS of people, although it was nice to be able to roam the aircraft freely and go up and down the stairs!

ANA operates the 747-400D version with 569 seats, being 542 in Y (and pokemon-painted if I am not mistaken). That must be one cramped cabin...

A320 = 174/177/180 seats single class
A321 = 210/214 single class
A332 = 303, 2 class config.

Just saw on Seatguru that FR's 738's have 189 seats "with no recline"!! I can't believe that, seats that you cannot recline, even easyJet has reclining seats. Didn't even know that such a thing existed! That is definitely one uncomfortable carrier.

You may well be right, I haven't flown with them for quite a while but do recall on at least one flight that I had a reclining seat near the emergency wing exit.

The only airline that I have encountered here in the US with no recline is Allegiant Air... and as cheap as they are sometimes... ive flown LAX-FAR-LAX twice on them and it has been horrible. If there was no price difference, I'd pick multiple connections over their flights. But there IS a price difference, so i suck it up

Monarch's got 384 in their A332s, and 220 in their A321s.
Thomas Cook puts 235 in a 752!
Easyjet's got 156 in their A319s and 183 in their A320s.

Hi all

where can I see, of the major companies, who fits more people on their aircraft. and the real seat size. not only the seat pitch. which sometimes can be missleading.
These are my principles but if you don't like them I have others

Nope EZY have 183 in there A320's. In return the have compesated by having only half a AFT galley, for an extra 3 seats.

Thomas Cook Airlines (UK) This summer will have a A330-300 fitted with 398 seats. Not sure which aircraft will be flying with this config but obviously it will be one of the Thomas Cook Scandinavia A333's.

644 is the max they are proposing. The EKExpress that was floated up by them 5 years ago would have been the all Y config.

Somehow I though they "only" had 408...

Anyway, the British charter carriers are always good candidates. They have a record of squeezing in additional seats per row (2-4-2 on a 767 e.g.) and using very small seat pitches (such as a little less than 29" on Britannia). There are also a number of super high density configurations on short haul routes in Asia.

There is a difference.

Many of Horizon's routes are over *breathtaking* scenery.

It's hard to notice the window shades when you're going "Oooo" and "Ahhh" looking out the windows.

I would guess Atlant-Soyuz' Il-86 must be high up in the list, the tightest seat pitch I ever experienced and an absolute nightmare (Jetstar was bad, but comfortable compared to Atlant-Soyuz). The Il-86 had a 9 abreast configuration with 350 seats on-board. I am 1.92m (or 6' 3") tall, and I really suffered. Luckily on both flights both seats next to me were empty, otherwise I wouldn't have made it throughout the 2h flight.

It had a version of business class.

Oasis Hong Kong definitely didn't have a high density layout. That was one of their problems -- they had far too many business class seats, almost 80 on some of their aircraft. Their seating was less dense than many major 744 operators.

JL has 546 seats on their 744Ds, but that's with an 80-seat J class cabin. Seat map below.

Corsair had around 580 seats on their 744s.

You mean "has". Their 744s have 582 seats and that's with a 24 seat premium economy type of cabin in the front half of the upper deck with 5-abreast seating and more seat pitch.. If they replaced those seats with Y seats,total seating would be just over 600. You can take a virtual tour of their 744 cabin below by clicking on the orange dots in the diagram at the left for the desired cabin and them navigating around with your mouse.
http://www.corsairfly.com/corsair/st...corporate/visite-cabine/index.html

I expect Corsair's 744s probably have the most seats on anything other than an A380 (and more than some A380s).

I flew a MP A320 some years ago. I'm nearly sure I was seated on row 32, the last row. I think row 13 was missing. This means there should be 186 seats. IIRC there were no half rows.

Do you think they really had 186 seats in that plane? Their website said 180. I know I wasn't able to sit with my legs in front of me.
