Help With Santo Domingo-Punta Cana Flights

Mon Feb 22, 2010 10:42 pm

Hi all,

I'm planning a family vacation and that involves using a bunch of FF milles I have on my AV account. Problem is I'm booking a week in a Punta Cana resort, but AV only flies to SDQ, so I'm stuck between paying a driver to take us to Punta Cana, or book with CM BOG-PTY-PUJ, but I want to use my AV FF. Is there a chance I can book a domestic flight between SDQ and PUJ?? Take in mind I'll be travelling with 1 kid a 1 infant (6 months old...) so anything that can make our lifes easier would be really apreciated.

Thanks for your help.

I would check first (from SDQ):
http://www.pawadominicana.com/eng/home.aspx
http://www.asercaairlines.com/

If no success, it may be necessary to fly from JBQ (not SDQ) which involves a transfer described below:

From the website, http://www.takeoffweb.com/

Santo Domingo (JBQ) to Punta Cana (PUJ) = daily except Su. at 08:15 am (Sa. at 10:00 am) for U$ 100.00

Santo Domingo (JBQ) to Punta Cana (PUJ) = Mo., We., Fr. at 05:30 pm for U$ 100.00

"Please be aware that Higuero (JBQ) or also called "La Isabela" airport is located about 15 miles to the northwest of the City and Las Americas (SDQ) (the big international airport) is located about 15 miles to the east of the City. If your final destination is the City then you have to calculate about 30 min to go from either of both airports. If you have to move between the TWO airports then you have to calculate about ONE HOUR to go by taxi".

Some other possibilities from JBQ:
http://www.aerolineasmas.com/
http://caribbeanairsigns.com/

If none of these options work out, then the bus trip is about 4 hours described here:

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I have one big question, why Aserca?? doesn't seem like they fly domestic routes within DR.

thanks

Sorry. You are correct. Perhaps Aserca once operated CCS-SDQ-PUJ (without local traffic rights on SDQ-PUJ)?

Good info. Although actually, those two usually offer SDQ-PUJ-SDQ flights:

http://www.aerolineasmas.com/BodyText.aspx?Pagina=250
http://caribbeanairsigns.com/vuelos-santo-domingo-punta-cana/

However, I wouldn't be surprised in SDQ-PUJ-SDQ is cancelled from time to time if there isn't enough demand, since it demands mostly on international transfers. Whereas JBQ (closer to the city) has a lot steadier demand from the local market (often business folks who go in either direction for the day or weekend).

AFAIK Air Century only does JBQ-PUJ regularly:

http://www.aircentury.com/

I would try calling all of these to get a feel what their schedules and services are like for the days you're travelling.

There's also these two, which used to fly SDQ-PUJ in the past (but I'm not sure if still are):

http://www.caribair.com.do/
http://www.sapair.com.do

Air Century, Caribair and SAP have been around at least 10 years each.
