Wed Mar 03, 2010 8:31 am

I booked a flight today on CO and the first part is on UA from SEA-IAD (maybe) and IAD-RDU which looks like the same plane. Called United (long wait) and got the confirmation number but it says seat maps are unavailable for this flight. The reason listed is If this is a codeshare flight or a flight operated by a partner airline, please contact the operating carrier for seat map review and seat assignments. Any suggestions?

CO elites are not yet eligible for UA Y+ at time of booking. At this time, CO elites must select Y+ at checkin.
Later this year, along with reciprocal upgrades, we will be eligible to pick those Y+ seats.... Bummer for UA flyers, as CO doesn't have anything competitive to offer them!
Your CO flight number indicates that it is indeed operated by UA. I cannot get UA seat maps to display with any consistency on Now, why you can't pick a seat on, I do not know.
Can you call UA and ask for a specific seat?

BACALA's print show a problem with CO...they fail to show the actual flight numbers on UA...just their codeshare number...that is a disservice to their pax.

Access to United Economy Plus is NOT a defined benefit for CO Elites at this time -- we're not entitled to it at the time of reservation or even at check-in. Any CO Elite who has received E+ thus far has been extended a courtesy/favor. This will of course change in mid-2010.

If seat maps are unavailable at this time -- which can happen for a number of reasons -- simply call United, and have your basic seating preference (aisle/window) noted in your reservation, and the check-in system will attempt to allocate at check-in. Needless to say, your best odds of getting a good seat will come from checking in at or close to the T-24 mark online.

RE: UA/CO Codeshare Flight Question

I had two Continental (UA code share) flights this past Saturday, one long haul FRA-IAH and one domestic IAH-SFO.
I am a UAL 100K Elite status FF and was not able to choose my seats on the Continental flights.

I had to request to be moved (swapping with a passenger) to get a window seat on the long haul flight.
The domestic flight wasn't very full so my aisle seat was very easily changed to a window seat.

My take is to see the gate agent and try your luck being reseated in E+ showing your elite level card with CO.
