Delta Connection Seating Question

Fri Mar 05, 2010 1:42 am

Greetings fellow A.Netters!

I am hoping someone familiar with Delta operations can satisfy my curiousity. I fly every couple months from the Midwest to the West Coast and have been flying Delta recently (since they NWA merger). I purchase tickets about a month in advance and always have been able to choose a seat. I am booked on DL4091 from FNT to DTW on 11 March and I cannot choose a seat. I purchased the tickets 3 weeks ago and haven't been able to secure a seat, not that is a big deal as it is only a 55 minute flight. I have never been in this situation before. I am wondering why this would be and if someone could answer my question I would be grateful. I am afraid that I will show up at the airport and they will say there is a van waiting outside to drive you to DTW (which has happened before when a plane has been downed for mechanical reasons).

Just curious and thanks.

Jeff

The only seats left at this time for assignment are 2A/D, 4B/C, 5C and 8A/B/C/D - all of which can only be reserved by elites at this time.

Additionally, Delta holds back Row 1 on the CRJs for airport assignment.

When you show up to the airport, you will be able to select those open seats that are held for elites/airport assignment. If not, you will be given a seat request card and given a seat assignment at the gate.

This is no problem....you may even be able to make some progress by calling the DL folks personally. However, seat assignment should not be an issue for a short flight. The flying time from FNT to DTW is very very short. The taxi time at DTW on the otherhand is another issue.

Yes, exactly as you state it is a short flight and not a big deal. I was more curious than anything. Thanks.

I actually am having this problem too, Im flying from JAX-DTW and havent a seat assignment. I think they are just holding a few of the seats until everyone gets to the airport.

I had this problem last month from DTW to GRR.. seat options didn't pop up until 3 days before departure..

Also, Wouldn't FNT to DTW be much much shorter than 55 minutes? I got from DTW to GRR in less than 30min.. Thats twice as far.

I fly it a lot and it is about 55 minutes on average. Seems to pass DTW usually or swing out towards Port Huron depending on which runway is in use. I think the tailwind from GRR to DTW may help possibly? Not sure on that.

I'm flying RDU-DTW-FNT in two weeks. The flight block gate to gate for DTW-FNT is 0:40. (Depart DTW 7:20 PM, Arrive FNT 8:00 PM).

The reason I like having an actual seat assignment is because if the flight is oversold and more passenger show up than there are seats, I don't want to be the odd man out.
