IFE On American's Boeing 767-200s

Sat Mar 20, 2010 3:45 pm

Hi All,

For American Airline's Boeing 762's, SeatGuru indicates that in economy class, IFE consists of mainscreen projectors and overhead video monitors. However, it also indicates that all B and H seats "have limited underseat leg and storage room due to the presence of an entertainment equipment box." Does this mean that the B762 was delivered, or configured at some point, to be capable of having PTVs in economy class? There is in-seat audio, but I believe this is on other planes which do not have this underseat box. Or, is SeatGuru mistaken in its description?

When AA put new seats on the 762s back in the late 90s I believe they had plans to put in IFE in economy but scrapped it after 9/11.

Thanks for the information. Is it too costly, then, to remove these boxes and give the passengers more foot room?

Ah...I think it just might be out of sheer laziness in not removing the boxes. I honestly do not think that AA has any plans to put personal IFE in economy on any 767s.

I don't think so. You know how much weight and therefore fuel would be attributable for those boxes? No way they'd leave it in - not in an airline where the bean counters evaluate each year how much revenues the in-flight magazine makes vs. the weight (=fuel costs) it represents on aggregate. And that's not exactly a heavy item.

My guess is that seatguru hasn't updated that information, which would not be a first.

The boxes are still there, at least on the 763s.
